From the time I was a child I have always liked guns and knives.
In 1988 I went to a local gun and knife show in Alexandria, Louisiana. I was walking through the aisles of the gun show and I came upon an old man selling knives. I began talking to him and realized that he had actually MADE the knives that I was seeing on his table, I was amazed, how could a person actually make a knife, I was only 18 years old at the time. I had production knives before and knew that some machines in a giant building were making them but to actually think that a person was making a knife just stunned me.
That mans' name was Melvin Cormier from Jennings, Louisiana. I must have stood there and talked to him for an hour (still in awe of these pieces actually being made by him). It was a great talk and I learned about this whole handmade/custom knife world out there and from that moment I was hooked. I ended up buying a knife from him, $85, and still have it to this day. Hundreds and hundreds of knives, thousands and thousands of dollars and many, many years later, I still have that same passion when I am dealing w/ knife makers and my friends in the knife community. I feel like that 18 year old kid all over again...Amazed.
