my strider smell so bad

my second strider just arrived. took it out of the box and smells awful. My first strider also smells something like oil,but this one is worse. anyone have experience like this with strider knives? Never experienced with other makers but strider. Will this smell disappear? But I liked the knive.
 
:D Morimotom, I gotta ask. If Striders all smell bad, does your avatar imply you are a Strider fan?:D :D
 
IIRC, the Benchmade switchblades didn't smell so good either when I got one.

But I like 90/140 gear oil as an aphrodisiac.
 
As others have stated, it is the "Official Strider Smell". For some males of the species Stridericus Fanatica, this musk has a greater effect than a successful penile implant. In fact, if Strider ever decides to offer a "Reodorizing" service for their products, they could make a fortune. :D

I use Hoppe's#9, but the old stuff like my wife's Dad used when she was growing up.

Works like a champ!

The new stuff has little to no effect.

Thank God for that full 4oz bottle of ~ 1964 vintage. LOL

i do like striders, though i never made the connection with the avatar before.:D

All my knives smell good - however there may be knives out there that were treated for protection from the elements. Best not to smell your knives! Good luck on your purchase. :)
 
How bad is it?
I mean, is it like the moment you open the box does the smell hit you?

Or are you sniffing the sheath?
 
I smelled it when I removed the paper which the knive and the pouch was wrapped. I can smell it without actulally sniffing it. I am smelling it on my desk right infront of me while I'm typing words in my pomputer. about 40cm away from my nose. Even my hands get this smell after touching it. I am anticipating for this smell to go away.

In order to recapture the first experience, you buy another Strider, then another, and another.

All knifemakers use it, Strider just adds the tracer as a warning. :D
