well, i finally figured out why a company like benchmade doesnt really want you taking their knives apart (they void your warrenty if you do)

anyway, some of you may know my 940 has a broken spring, and only today did i get a proper fitting torx screwdriver to take it apart. the company said i could to avoid having to ship the knife from australia to the US and would send me a couple of replacement springs (service im happy with)

i notice the scales are dirty, like black and dirty *smelled like cracked pepper.......?* anyway, so i go and wash them, the knife is basically totally disassembled. but the stop pin and axis pin are still attached to the steel liners. i notice i can now pull the axis switch down and take it out the larger hole in the liners. i do that, over the sink *which i was washing the scales with*. 'ding' and 'splash', there goes the stop pin, down the pipe '**** !' that was my only response

luckily i got it out, had to take the pipe apart from below, cos using a magnetised steel rod didnt seem to work........or wasnt strong enough. but ive learnt my lesson, i didnt think it would happen, but yea, be careful when you disassemble these things, its not gonna happen again to me

:) its quite funny now when i think back, i was panicking quite a bit

That's the only reason I like my Colt Detective Special. (the knife, not the gun) It's very easy to take apart and clean. Unfortunately, it's also very dull and refuses to become sharp, even on a model 204. It does make a good knife to lend to people who don't know what they're doing, though.:)

Take it apart first, THEN clean it!:)

Preferably in a bag or box to catch little springy parts wishing to go AWOL, or over a large mat on a nice bright tabletop, etc.

And if you are dealing with powerful springy thingies, wear eye protection...;)

thats a good idea with the bag, generally i just be careful, but this time i didnt expect it to just fall out. it was just so dirty it cried for a cleaning heh

its not actually very hard to disassemble the knife, you just need to make sure you dont lose the fiddly bits. the knife *working with one spring* is very very smooth after a good cleaning

opened my 154 cm EDC too, one of the screws wont go in properly, bleh

I thought I ws the only one who had those sort of problems. The drain can be a dangerous place. Mine actually has a few Torx screws, and Kydex sheath fasteners still in it! One day I should take the pipes apart. I could probably make a new complete knife.:p
