i am using my thumb to dislodge the closing framelock mechanism, and index finger to bring the blade to its closing position.

i find it rather difficult to dislodge the framelock and it is tearing my skin/flesh apart.

is there any tips to tweak the framelock to make it smoother?

Is it a new Subcom? If so, the lock maybe just needs some time for breaking in. My Keycom needed that and so did a lot of other knives in my collection.

Yo chocochoco,

Hey make sure you are not applying pressure to the blade at the same time you are trying to disengage it. I notice a LOT of folks do this...

Also, ya pushing a bit down and sideways on the lockbar?

Does the unlocking make a "TICK!" sound? I noticed that two of my SUBCOM F's do this, so I know that it is due to a stiff ball bearing. It kinda "jumps" closed. However, after using a toothpick and putting some Tri-Flow on the bearing, the "TICK" sound went away, and it works as it should. If you do this, try "rolling" the detent ball with the toothpick as you apply the lube of your choice.

Keep us posted and God bless!

It sounds more like he's not getting cut by the blade... which IMO is pretty difficult based on the Subcom F's design.

I'd take a small file and just run over the framelock "jimping" or grooves a little if they're really that harsh (which they shouldn't be - the ones on the handle, butt, and top are much harsher generally).

Alternatively, if you do feel that it's the ball-bearing in the lock, then disassembling and running over it with some fine sandpaper could work, or even easier, use a small piece of hardwood and a small ballpeen hammer to tap the ball-bearing into the framelock.

you should bite it back anyway...(you know they are called biscuits) just to keep it in line and show it whose boss.....Doc:D
BTW It worked for Mike Tyson as well......
