Dave went and gave me his stag 701. He couldn't have made me more happy. The Mustang is my favorite Buck slippie going away but I don't own any in stag. Thank you so much Dave for the knife I love it...you made my day!! You're just too generous.:thumbup::thumbup:

Should I carry this knife? I'm leaning towards it.
This looks like elk to me, the catalog say Buckhorn so it could be yes??

It was my pleasure to send it to you. Enjoy it however you want to. Maybe this should be a poll about carry vs. not to carry.:)

good taste both of you!
to carry or not is quite a question
carry or ware ?
humm
i have nice suites, coats and tye's that i ware now
and then the wife has what she calls
doctor visit/ going out to nice dinner and movie slacks and nice shirts
( and i better not be discovered working in either of them EXCEPT in an emergency)

that wonderful looking stag and supper nice sheath
call to me to ware to the nicer places in life...
and yet it is there to do the job in an emergency!
but it is JMHO...
my brother the plumber is going to ware his to the nice places he goes
not to work..

I think you should use/EDC it. The fact that it was a gift only makes it more special. You will remember the person who gave it to you every time you use it. The generosity of a friend, and mans oldest tool, definitely a winning combination:thumbup:

What he said!! Jack

That is a most generous gift, Dave. My hat is off to you.

As for carry or not, I would let the knife fulfill it's purpose and use it.

I have to agree APF!!

And Guacho may have said it best:

I've decided to press this knife into service and look forward to decades of service from this fine knife. Thanks so much Dave, it was an awsome gift.

HonkerRusty should be able to tell you exactly what creature the scale came from...

Well I felt like a new knife project this morning.
Dave's stag Mustang/Bronco made my EDC 701 redundant and now obsolete so I decided to play around with it this morning. Here is what I ended up with...needs some more finishing but the fit is good.

Has anyone ever seen a smooth buff 701?

Another beauty from G's shop! That will go great with the Buff 500 you got. Is that where you got the material for the scales? I remember you said the scales came off one of the 500's.

I did look at using the scale off the 500 but couldn't...believe it or not a 501 and 701 are both to long between the bolsters to reuse the 500s scale. Last year I bought some smallish scale from Texas Knifemakers Supply. It was to small for 110/112 work so its been sitting around for a while. It was a perfect size for this project.

I'm pleased with it.

I've got a 501 and 503 kinda hanging about so I think I may try some smooth buff on those two. I still need to do the ironwood on 500 that tossed off its scale so I've got several projects that interest me.

Having a "matched set" of smooth buff 500 series will be really cool and I'm really excited to see the 500 with the ironwood scales. That's going to be a beauty.

Thanks Dave.
I think that Mustang is going to be a good user for somebody.
It really looks a lot better than my pictures.
Maybe I should send off to 300Buck for photo services:)
