Since Ive got the "picture-posting bug", I thought Id post a pic of my current tobacco-tin based kit.
It holds the usual items, plenty of cordage, several firelighting methods, fishing kit, sewing kit & some other items that might not be so easily identifiable (on the bottom row) such as a glue stick & 2 tiny pencils stored in a plastic tube. Ive also put a steel dogtag in there with a pic of my GF on one side & my ID details on the other.

I secure the tin with Ranger bands, wrap with 10' of paracord & put a glowring on the outside so its easy to locate.

Impressive number of items. Can we have a detailed, left to right, row by row list of items.

Can we also see the dog tag BIG without the black bars :D

You can make bands like that using motorcycle inner tubes. I used lots when I did trail riding, enduro and trials.

Where do you guys keep your survival tins?

In your house? Car/truck? Carry with you?

If Im carrying a daysack (usually I am!) I carry mine in the top small pocket of my Maxpedition Falcon. If not, in a coat pocket.
