The fat Ash1 has been my dream blade for many years. I finally got one a few weeks ago :)
There have been some "criticisms" of the fat ash1 I have read here an there but was hell bent on owning one. after having it long enough to put it to some use, I am delighted and surprised in its performance!!
One criticism is that its to thick an heavy for a 12" knife.
I found that with its ergos.. it chops AWESOME due to lots of weight behind the edge. so I have a decent chopper in a more compact package! (a longer blade can baton a larger log however)
another criticism is its to thick to slice or do anything of detail.
I found that with the full flat grind spanning all the way to the spine, it slices an widdles, great!! (the convex edge helps)
I got used to the weight real fast, I LOVE this blade!!
I know some of you will disagree but that's my take on it!:D

And you can pry tractor trailer doors open with it! Congrats on a Super Sweet blade Rob!

Are there better slicers than the Fat ASH-1 in the Busse stable? Yep. Are there better choppers than the Fat ASH-1 in the Busse stable? Yep. Is the Fat ASH-1 a good compromise between a slicer and a chopper? Yep. Would it be my first choice in either category? Nope. That's not a criticism, it's a preference.

Enjoy your new knife. :)

well said, its funny how often people get hung up on specs alone.. perhaps the most important factor is how much you personally love a blade. so long as the specs will get the job done, if a blade just feels right to you an you love it.. that's arguably the better blade (for you) the Ash1 feels like an extension of my hand and is easy an fun to use.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I had the same experience with the Scrap Yard Scrapper 6. The ergos on some knives are so perfect that they feel right at home in your hand. When you find one, don't ever let it go. :D

So you like these, Andy? Nothing like a small sword to do your needed business...;-)

I can see the appeal of the BG's, but limiting my ASH1's to INFI. I have to keep some sort of boundary on this collecting, or might have to move to the Poor House. Like those exist in 21st Century America...;-)

.... it is rumored that I do indeed... ;)

I just need the Custom Shop to make me a .25 ASH1 in INFI now (having received my Battle Grade yesterday) !!!

well.. you being someone born with an ash1 in each hand...... I thought you would agree with me.:D

....ya that's rough! but it sounds like a story that will have a happy ending!

I'm hoping so. I assumed that the Blade Ganzaa knives were extras that they had made up for the show, but apparently not. Since they were still building them, I tied to get mods done (Blue/Black G10), but they said those ween't allowed on this batch. I would even go for sans Cerakote as I'm intending it to be a user anyway, and it would save them a bit of trouble.
It just makes you wonder, and maybe a bit envious, when you see others getting their knives that were ordered a long time after the Ganzaa.
I'm sure it will all be worth the wait, though, so yeah, happy ending.

Rob,

Agree with your observations. The FAT ASH1 is "overbuilt" in a word. It's generally more weight than is necessary for most chores you'd expect to accomplish with a knife that size, but the extra weight provides more chopping ability, at the tradeoff of being that much more heavy to pack. It's a great knife!

This thread needs SOME pictures!

You're not alone. I'm still waiting for my Fat ASH from the ganza as well and had also asked for sans cerakote but was told no.

These have taken a long time for some reason. I figured I just had bad luck as my blades always seem to come a long time after others report getting them. 6 months is not unheard of.

Ditto here, it was to be my first busse, but instead the bgash beat it and I since added two more ash's from the exchange. That has helped soften the wait. It will however be my first fatty and I can't wait to see the difference!
