Hey guys,

I thought I would show this off here...

I decided to finish up this knife, and since I hang out here the most, so I am posting it here...

Tell me what you think...

Thank you,

Marion, what is the purpose for such a tiny knife?

Well, it is not too tiny....

But, the kiridashi is a japanese design, sort of their answer to a box cutter, way before there were carboard boxes... Sort of a chisel slash utility knife...

I like it! very industrial looking

Thank you!

Sweet! Forged?

Thank you! No, this one is just stock removal... But the heat treat is with a forge and a torch.

Nice! It looks great. I saw kiridashi's everywhere when I lived in Japan. They're very popular with the working class and are used as utility blades. Kinda the Japanese version of a wharncliffe.

Now where are your kydex pants for it?

Dashi's are one of those knives that I've always liked yet never bought for some reason. I guess I don't really have a need for one. That one though, is a beauty.

nice job Marion...

Thank you!

I kinda feel the same way... I originally started this one for my brother, who decided he wanted something else, mid-stream... So, it has taken awhile to finish it... I like the concept, and I like this knife about the best of the Kiridashis I have seen or held, but I think I would prefer one with a different configuration... A bit more syncretic, more like the bastard child of a dashi and a wharncliffe.... I have one drawn up, I will work one out when I get the shop set up for knifemaking...

That's cool! Very utilitarian. Looks like it'd make an awesome boxcutter.

Thank you! Your comments make me feel like I hit the mark I was aiming at, thank you!

Nice work. I just made my first knife. It was a great process. Matt

Thank you. And it is a great process, challenging, but rewarding.

Well, in a small knife, I think the single most important feature that it should have is an acute point. From drilling a hole in a fire board, to opening your package of boil meal or ramen, even when the edge is starting to drag, a sharp point will carry the day. And, since it is wrapped in para-cord, while it would not be ideal, you could use it, in a pinch.

Thanks for asking!
