My third knife

This is my third attempt and my first post of a knife I've made. It is a small chef's knife I'm giving to my wife for Christmas. Sorry for the poor quality pics, but you get the idea :) Please comment/critique and don't hold back on any negativity please...thanks for looking!

OAL: 10.50 inches
Blade Length: 5.25 inches
Steel: 440c (heat treated by Bos)
Handle Material: Figured Maple finished with CA

Stunning work for a third knife! I thought it not only looked great, but would probably be a good worker, too.

One small thing... I think if I were you and wanted to be taken more seriously, I would change my user name from bunghole.

Just sayin'....

Suggestions for number 4 ... maybe a 3.7" drop point Tactical folder in S35V with a flipper and assister torsion bar and a sealed bearing system out of orange, blue and blue/black G-10 scales, titanium frame lock and carbon fiber as an option.

Already started on that exact knife :)

Really nice job as far as I can see whether it was your 3rd knife or 100th. From the pictures, the only thing I can see for improvement is to not let your bolster pins show up. If you use the same material for your bolster as your pins, they should disapear when you grind them. You're very talented. Keep it up.
 
Beautiful work for a "beginner",I bet she loves it and will ask for a set and knife holder. Best wishes.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. She was very pleased with it and we used it as a cheese and sausage knife at Christmas dinner. The guests were impressed. The knife is very sharp...actually much sharper than the other knives in the kitchen, regardless of how hard I try to keep them sharp. I think my wife might be part of the problem there :)

For the bolster pins, I assumed I was using the same material, but there must have been a slight variation in material. I need to get better about labeling my material as over time, I tend to forget what some piece of scrap is. I kind of like contrasting pins, but I didn't intend it on this knife. I think it would have been kind of cool to use copper pins on this one and I might try that on a future knife. It was also the first time I peened the pins before final finishing and it made a big difference as far as any gaps are concerned. My previous knives had slight gaps around the pins when finished. I got a little sloppy on my peening (damned whiskey!) and deformed the bolster slightly...you can see it in the last picture where the border between the bolster and scale isn't perfectly straight. There are plenty of other little errors that I'm aware of, but I imagine everyone ends up with those and they aren't noticeable unless pointed out.
