My third slip joint!

I hope this is alright to post here. I usually post my knives in the Knife maker's gallery but I thought my fellow traditional enthusiasts would like to see this as well.

This is my third attempt at making a slip joint knife. This is also my first one made using my new mill. The nail nick is much more crisp and it has mill relieved liners. This one came together a lot better than the first two and I am really happy with the results. I made this one out of CPM 154 at .105" thick with stainless liners and shield. It has ivory paper micarta over black G-10 over natural canvas micarta on the handles. This is also another first for me. I created this pattern myself using other sodbuster pictures as a guide to shape and size. It measures about 3 5/8" closed. Blade is dead center when closed and it has great walk and talk with no play. Flush in all three positions and about a 7 on pull, easy enough to pinch open.

Any comments welcome and thanks for looking!

Holy cow, Jared! That is sweet! Those layers on the handles are awesome! Never seen anything quite like that.

Very, very nice!

Wow. Just wow. The white off-set by the pattern in the handle. Amazing. Looks like the tang fits nice in the handle so there is no sharp edge there. Very nice. I'd buy one.

That looks great!
I really like the contrast in the layered handle.
I think you will have a hard time convincing anyone that's just your third slipjoint ;)

That is a sweet knife...for your third?...man, I want to see your 30th!!!
A real nice knife, and I agree with Rick, the colouring on the handle is just a bang-on match.

Thanks for all the kind words everybody. This really is my 3rd. Here is the first:

I did not have the mill for these two so the pulls and nicks are just okay and the liners are etch relieved.

Jared,

I had no doubts I would like it when I clicked on this thread, but all of the additional touches you achieved are just awesome!

I am so happy to see you doing well.

Kevin

That looks great. Congratulations. How in the heck did you do the long pull without a mill?

Thanks Kevin. It hasn't even been a year since I asked you about the 1x42 Kalamazoo. Now here we are. I owe a great deal to your initial help.

It looks like a Sodbuster/Saddlehorn combo. That is what I call a Work Horse!

I like that, in fact, I think that's what I'll call this one. My "Work Horse".

Thanks! I used a heavy cut off wheel for a dremel tool chucked up in my drill press. It wasn't pretty but it got the job done. The slitting saw in my mill is just so much nicer. Long pulls are a piece of cake now.

Such a great pattern, and great handle colors.

I just had to go to your facebook profile earlier today to get a fix.

Jared, that's really sweet. All of them for that matter; I'd be proud to own any one of them.

I like em. The market really needs more Sodbusters with better blade steel. I also made sure to give your facebook page a like as well. I'm quite fond of that Burlap Micarta it's got a very earthy feel to it.
