My thoughts on a few JK Knives

Finally got the chance to get out and spend some time in the woods. I used the excuse that I was going to finish reviewing a few knives to stay out longer than I planned. I took several JK Handmade Knives out with me. I took a Scout Jr in Black micarta, a Combat / Survival in tan canvas micarta and a Pocket Scandi in maple burl with me. These are the same knives that I had with me 6 weeks ago when the weather was a little different.

In these 2 pictures I included my newest knives a JK modified Hiker and JK Bushcrafter Scandi grind.

The Scout Jr OAL is 9 3/4”, has a 4 3/4” blade, is 1 1/4” width and 3/16” thick O1. It is a workhorse and built like a tank! I have used it for chopping duties as well as cutting some brush and other items. I used it on some Multiflora Rose bush by the mail box and it took care of them in no time.

The Combat / Survival OAL is 9”, has a 4 1/5” blade, 1 1/5” width and 3/16” thick O1. This is also built like a tank! The sheath that came with it is great and is my favorite JK sheath. I plan for this to be my primary camping knife. I have used it for chopping, cutting and making kindling and several other “traditional camping” chores. It has always exceeded my needs. It kept the original edge for a good while but after extensive use on some oak I did need to sharpen it. I look forward to spending some quality time camping this summer with this knife.

The Pocket Scandi OAL is 6 1/4” long, has a 3” blade, 1” width and is 1/8” O1 thick. The more time I spend with this knife the more it becomes my go to knife. It does everything well and is easy for me to front pocket carry on duty. This knife has been my EDC almost everyday for the last 4 months. This was the first Scandi grind I owned and I am sold on this grind.

In summary I am very pleased with all of these knives. I look forward to getting some time out with the modified Hiker and Bushcrafter Scandi and posting some pictures.

Awesome! The Scout Jr. has been on my short list for quite some time. I really need one. Hopefully before Elk season.

Yeah, the pocket scandi really looks great.

Thanks for posting all of this steel eye candy.

Best,

- Mike

The pocket scandi is one I've been considering since I first saw your pics of it. Nice collection!

I am really fond of it. I am surprised there isn't more demand for that model. It has replaced John's Anniversary EDC as my go to knife. It has proven to be a perfect comprise in size and effectiveness for my on duty carry.

Nice review, Dave. Your proto of the Budget Wharncliff is in process, be sending it next week.
