My thoughts on the Sebenza after owning it for two weeks. (pic heavy)

As I said in previous posts, I didn't love my large micarta Insingo when I first got it and was wondering if I would want to carry it more than my trusty para 2. I quickly got over that and "got it". Not to say that I don't carry the para 2 anymore but I usually do that when a $400.00 knife isn't something I want to have with me or when the mood strikes me. My Sebenza has become my (mostly) daily carry. I use my knives daily, albeit very light duty stuff (no boxes or zipties on a regular basis or anything). I usually use it for cutting open packaging, cutting up some salmon treats for my little 16 year old dachshund, string, food prep, etc. Regular around the house stuff. This is the same stuff I use my para 2 on when I carry it. After a little over 2 weeks I am thoroughly impressed and continue to get more and more impressed with it every day. The knife rides amazingly in my pocket, I carry it in the sheath when I don't want a clip sticking out of my pocket, mainly at work (office environment). I clip it to my pants when I am not and it just disappears until I need it. It does everything the para 2 does and some things better. The point on the para 2 is useful I suppose but I don't miss it for what I usually cut day to day when I have my Sebenza. You all know about the tolerances, how it feels in the hand, the smoothness, etc.

I bought it lightly used and it still looks brand new. The knife was said to have the factory edge when I bought it and the fact that it wasn't very sharp bugged me. So, I bought a loaded strop bat with black, green, pink compounds and bare leather for the 4th side. I have to say, after a little use, 3 runthroughs the strop bat over the last couple of weeks and a little improvement in my technique and it easily shaves hair. Dare I say it is as sharp as the M4 Gayle Bradley I had prior and I didn't think a knife could possibly be sharper than that by my hand. Now, the only thing that bugged me about the Sebenza is no longer an issue. I can easily say that I have no remorse whatsoever for getting this knife. I changed the lanyard to a leather one tied the same way as the paracord lanyard came from the factory but I made it a little shorter (opinions welcome). Still debating keeping it on, or tying a different one with some square suede lanyard material or getting a bead and trying something new. Maybe I will take it off together, who knows? Ok, enough of me rambling, time for some pics.

I've seen a few people tie on leather lanyards, and they look pretty cool. The one you tied came out great.

I have the same knife, but, in a small and love it as well. +1 on the lanyard

Nice report Mike. I like the leather lanyard and will consider that for one of my other knives. I couldnt help but to smile from ear to ear when you mentioned cutting open the salmon for your Docxie. Love those dogs, I miss my 2 terribly, but am reminded of very fond loving memories of them whenever someone mentions having a Dachshund.:)

That micarta inlay does look good, I like the way CRK use the pattern on the edge of the block rather than the flat too.

Sorry for your loss. I had two as well but had to put my male down on April 12. My female has lost a step, some hearing, eyesight, weight, etc but she is 16 after all. So she gets spoiled:)

Ok, we might have to change this Thread to the "Badger Hound" thread.:p

I have a miniature Dachsund(3yr old) he's what they call a "dapple" because of the color combination(black silver/grey) great dogs. Have had them in my family for years. Sorry US Steel, I'm sure they're missed.

Sorry to hear you guys lost some good companions.

ray that's a great knife and your lanyard rocks:thumbup:

Thanks Gents. Both had medical problems, the male died at 14.5 years and his little partner only survived a year without him, she was only 9.5. It's been over 7 & 6 years respectively and we're still not quite over it, don't really think we’ll ever be either. We use to hold the door open so they could enter after playing in the backyard, and to this day, my Wife and I (out of habit) will still occasionally do this, only to look down and quickly realize that it isn't necessary. But there's no need to be sad, because it warms our hearts knowing that we gave them the best possible quality of life possible.

Not to completely derail this thread but since it is mine, it has taken this turn, I will do it anyway:)

The brown one is Poncho, he had to be put down in April at age 15. The black one is my little 16 year old Xena. I had both of these little dogs since college and they were a big part of my adult life.

And a picture that I think is pretty funny since my dogs would totally say this if they could talk:)

Sebenza- there I kept it somewhat knife related:)

The pics are fantastic, thanks so much for sharing. Our male was an exact twin of Poncho (almost the same age too) and our female was also a black Doxie like Xena. They ruled the roost; had I of know of CRK at the time, the male would have been named Zaan ~ so fitting.

That other pic is absolutely hilarious...if I captioned the photo from our female’s perspective, it would read, "Zaan did it". From the male’s perspective, it would read, "now that you're home, somebody clean this crap up before I step in it, or worse yet...Ah never mind, just get me a bone".

I could name a dog sebenza. Thanks for the compliments on the lanyard also. The knife keeps getting smoother and smoother! It freely swings without lockbar pressure.

I love my Classic MM. Smooth as can be. My two remaining Sebs (a learning experience) have little dings and knots and mars and stuff, like me, but I love 'em almost as much as my now-gone Golden Retrievers.

Did we not have a CRK owners and their dogs thread ? If we didn't perhaps we should. :p

I have the same EDC set up too! Black and tan is male and will be 15 in March. (he still plays with a 5 yr. old Yorky) The red is a female about 13 1/2. Love these dogs. Sorry for your loss.

The lanyard looks great.

There seems to be quite a few Dachshund owners that happen to like CRK:) Great minds think alike is what I say!

lol... you guys are funny. :D

@raym0016, that's a sexy knife. If I ever get a Sebenza, it will have Micarta inlays.
If I ever get a dog... hmm, I dunno. :p

Cute dogs though.
