Hello,

A while back when I first heard about Timascus, I had this idea - two daggers, one folding, one fixed blade made as kind of a collaboration between Nick Wheeler and Tom Ferry. Over the course of the predesign process Tom (doing the folder) and Nick (doing the fixed blade) began to diverge in their ideas. These guys are artists, so I let them run with their ideas. The two daggers came out stunning!

Nick had this one pretty much finished for the OKCA show, but didn't deliver it, since he had some final touches to put on and was waiting on a stencil (I guess his name on the blade might be nice ;) ).

I hope Nick can chime in and add some of what went into the knife - one thing I've never seen before is the type of plunge he did. Mind boggling if you ask me.

For those of you who'll be at the BLADE show, Nick will have it with him at the Timascus table. But PLEASE don't try to buy it off him, as it's already paid in full! :p (okay, I guess if someone wants it for $10k I might consider the offer! ) LOL

Mitch, So you are the lucky owner. I got to hold and drool on this knife at the Oregon show. I went from Nicks table to the Timascus table and bought $185 worth of the new timascus. The colors those guys are getting are too amazing! The blade damascus is unreal too on this one. Nick must have a little bit of sculptor in him because his latest pieces look carved more than hammered to shape. Nick is starting to make me mad. I hate that smile of his too!

Man oh man! This is something for the picture books. That is just a wild looking grind and the whole thing is dazzling. Nick, you are quite the artist and I think it's safe to say that you have arrived! :)

Mitch, you dog! So you're the lucky (and probably broke) one that owns this fine dagger. VERY nice work by Nick, but what else would we expect, right? :) Congrats - enjoy it!

Thanks for posting this Mitch! :D

Timascus is COOL!!! My good friends Tom Ferry and Bill Cottrell are forging this stuff out and it's amazing. Some more good friends, the Bybee family, are making it available through their supply company, Alpha Knife Supply. It is a real leap in knifemaking. The material is super light, super strong, non-corrosive, and beautiful. There is a very broad spectrum of colors that can be achieved with it, whether heat-colored or anodized.

This is definitely my most difficult knife so far. It looks pretty simple in the photo, but it sure didn't feel like it when I was cutting my hands up making it...LOL ;)

This blade is a modified ladder pattern forged from 1084 and 15N20. Tom got me started on the billet and Ed Caffrey helped me with some technique on forging a dagger blade. Thanks Guys! I heat-treated it myself.

The guard is forged to shape so the pattern of the timascus follows it's shape. There are two damascus spacers in the handle, but everything else is Timascus...the main body being a twist pattern.

For the plunge cuts...well that's a secret. HAHAHAHAHAAHA yea right...just time consuming. I finish ground the blade, hand sanded it to 600 grit, and then took off after the plunge shape with a carbide burr in my dremel. I spent a day hand sanding them smooth. A flat head screwdriver with a leather pad glued on works well for sanding them out.

Thanks for the support guys, it is MOST APPRECIATED!!! :D

Nick, Its bad enough that you are a body builder, young, handsome, all your teeth and have so many girls that hang around your table that we cant even see your knives but this new dagger shows you have skills too. Give us old farts a break will Ya?

Hey Nick, you get that stencil yet? It'd be nice if the people at the BLADE show could see the knife with your name on it! ;)

Mitch, thanks for sharing your good fortune, that is one beautiful knife. I'd like to see its sibling too, if you feel like it.

Nick, I've often wondered how people do those deep and curved grinds and could never think of a way except the one you described. Now that I know it's a matter of work and not magic maybe I'll be willing to tackle such a thing myself one day. :)

I saw this beauty at Alpha Knife Supply too, looks like Nick has set the standard for what Timascus is for. Everybody loves this knife.

Congratulations all around, a wonderful piece.

Dave

Actually guys, there's only one of the dagger. :D It's just that Bladegallery does some awesome photo work and laid two shots of the same knife on one picture - so you could see the full shot and a more closeup shot of the handle! Very cool knife!
