Don't dispose of your drill shavings in your dip bucket!! I was sanding away with a 500 grit belt on a drop point and dipped it in the water and stirred it around to cool it off. Went right back to sanding, then I looked at the blade. There was a big deep scratch all the way down the midle of the blade. Whew!! It musta picked up a metal shaving and gouged into the steel. Needless to say I'll be cleaning my dip bucket tomorrow and throwing my drill shavings in the trash can from now on. Take care! Michael

an easy way to do that is place a powerfull magnet in a trash sack drag it along where the metal shaving's are then turn it inside out Pooooof No MO metal no mess on the magnet

I keep a bottle of Ivory dishwashing detergent in my shop and always add some to my dip bucket. It helps the accumulated metal shavings and dust settle to the bottom.

Now that I think about it, I also wipe the blade after colling it when I get down to those finer belts. One of the joys of having done this for 20 years is that you have most of your mistakes behind you. I still get a chance to discover a new one now and then though.

Great tip Tbark!!!! I wouldn't have thought of that in a million blades.
Jerry, I use dishwashing liquid in my dip bucket too, but I have a bad habit of swirling the blade around in the water. Guess it stirred the bottom stuff up. I normaly use my air hose to blow dry the blade after dipping, just didn't this time. Sure will from now on, lol!! Thanks for the tips Tbark and Jerry!! Aint it amazing how much knowledge is floating about the forums!!! Wow!! Take care! Michael
