I don't know how I am going to stand the wait!!! :cool: :cool:

That's damn cool, Ron. I hope you'll post detailed pics as soon as you have it in your hands! :)

Quiet Storm;
You bet, I will take all kinds of pictures and post the best looking one here on the forums.

By the way, I called Trident Knives and got a very pleasent reception from Cathy. They sound like just the kind of company that wants to please its customers.

I've been seriouly thinking about getting one...let us know how you like it. Good to hear about their customer service.....

Definately give a review as I've been giving those a very serious look. I really like the simple lines they have as it appears to be a very functional knife.

P239,
Yes, as soon as I get it (maybe by Thursday via USPS)I will give it a little bit of a work out so I can have something to report on. I have a buch of green bamboo that needs thining and some cardboard to cut up so we will see how it does to start with.
I DO love their "lifetime guarantee"! they say if you break it or there is something wrong with it then they will replace/repair it to my satisfaction.!

OBTW, their web siite server is still not up and running as of today at 0945 but hopfully they will be up sometime today.

Thanks MU. Btw, what model is that, what blade length, and handle material? The ads I've seen show a darker handle material. Haven't tried the website yet, but will.

The site is up..............sorta. I can get specs and names of the knives but no pictures. Is yours an Oberland 0-2 with the 4.75" blade? I think that is the one I would like to have as I'm looking for a 5" bladed knife.

I've looking at them for a while now and the more they show up here on BF the more I want one. Nice knife, hope to see a review soon.

P239,
I originally orderd the Oberland 01 with the 4.5" blade and the "phantom" finish which is a kind of fading blue color. Looks kind of like case hardened finish only darker.
When their web site went down I gave them a call to see where I was on their waiting list and while on the phone Cathy said "wait a second and I will look to see what we have on hand".
Well they had this special order Oberland 01 with the grey/white camo sheath as well as the black sheath that come with it too. The special order also called for for a green Gun-Kote finish. The person who ordered it backed out of the deal so they let me have it for an extra $80 to cover the cost of the extra sheath and the Gun-Kote finish. I won't know exactly how long the blade is until I get it since it was a special order it might have a longer blade then the regular 4.5". Also the whitish G-10 was a special order item too but I think they carry some on hand.

Just checked and the web site is still not completly up yet.

If you go to their web site and click on the "custom knives" button it will take you to the specks but I also found that they had "Oberland" highlighted and if you click on it it takes you to the German Oberland web site and at the top of that page there is a "Trident" button....click on that and it will show you a catalog of models but the writing is in German.

Ciao for now
Ron

Jerkeejoe,
Hey, thanks for the great write up on your Oberland 01. Now I am even more anxious to get mine in the mail. Since you already worked out your blade then maybe I can be a little more gentle on mine! :D Since my health won't alow me to do anymore camping I will probably just test mine on green and dry/brittle bamboo, and hawthorn branches. I still don't know how long my blade is since I jumped on someone elses special order that they backed out on. I do know that the blade has green Gun-Kote, 2 sheaths, and the white G-10 that I really think looks COOL.
However, I will be posting some pictures when I get it and add some of my minor(compared to yours)testing results.

I noticed that you put your own edge on your knife. Did the knife not come to you already sharpened or did you just want a different angle for yours?

Thanks again and ciao
Ron Cassel

PS;
your knife and your reviews are just going to cost me more money!;) :thumbup:

The edge mine came with was a little more obtuse than I prefer so I took a little metal off and ground it to about 24*. The factory angle was decent, but I got it really really sharp for food prep and stuff. I can't wait to see the pics of yours!!
