It'll be held at the Grand Hyatt, so I carry something to cut random stuff we'll be using that night. I need something..classy looking. Any suggestions?

CRK Mnandi with mammoth ivory bark inlays. :D

How about a Kressler subhilt fighter? Very classy looking, just with a 7.75" blade.

Seriously though, there's a lot you could get depending on your budget. An Al Mar Hawk with nice wood or pearl scales could fit the bill. A Queen cocobolo slipjoint might work too, several different styles to choose from with D2 blades.

I'd have to agree with the Rainbow Leek, if you saved your allowance last year, a William Henry. Mom should pay for a "Prom Knife", no?

The Buck Ranger that I picked up as my dress knife today would work for prom too. Either use the leather case on your belt or just slip it in your pocket, it's a classy knife that isn't very expensive.

Prom... as in high school prom? In New York City? A knife?

Those things don't seem to mix...

Ah, to be young again and bound for the Prom....

The word Prom comes from promenade which means to walk, but which connotes a very public walk, a display, and especially a boasting display.

I invited my girlfriend to take a walk with me some months ago down on the riverfront in Portland. I'd planned the dinner and book reservations at one of our favorites. But what I hadn't planned on was that it was Prom night and all the young couples were out in all their fine dress. We had such a wonderful time just watching. And you can imagine how impressed the GF was when our walk happened to take us past the Harborside and I said, "Let's try here. They're packed with the Prom crowd, but maybe... just maybe... I can get a table." And the response was, "Of course... right this way." Oh, we had a great time that night just watching the Prom crowd.

If I were going to the prom, I think I'd select this knife:

Now that's a knife for a promenade.

My thoughts exactly. I don't know how it is in New York City but High schools in Texas have a hard and fast rule that strictly forbid students (and faculty) bringing pocket knives to ANY school sponsored function, whether it's on school property or not. Be SURE you know the district policy on this type of thing before you carry a knife into the prom.

A couple of my favorite gentlemans knives are the the Case Slimlock W/Amboyna wood scales and the Nemesis Imp.

Sounds like a bad idea.... But, OK. First of all you will have to talk to your date and make sure whatever you carry will not clash with her garter knife.

"Leave your guns at home, Bill, Leave your guns at home." Your knife too, for that matter.

Yeah, I have a zero-tolerance policy at my school, for just about everything. I still got a year before my prom time is up. :p

If I go to my prom, and let's say hypothetically, I were to carry a knife it would probably be an Al Mar, Honey Jigged Bone Hawk. Or a Spyderco, Kiwi in black pearl.

On a side note, there is a survey going for those who are going to the prom this year, and it asks various things about the prom. One in particular was "why you want to attend" and of course one check box was to get drunk, and another was to lose your virginity. It's like they're encouraging us these days..... :jerkit:

In the early 1980s I was a Hotel Security supervisor at the Grand Hyatt before I did the gun and badge thing for the city.....memories....any way I would not bring any knife as school functions follow the same school rules and Penal Laws as being on school grounds....therefore in todays world especailly in NYC.....I would not bring anything !!!...or your night will end a few blocks away at Mid Town South's holding cell......Have a Great time otherwise.....
