My two bushcraft knives

I'm in the process of reevaluating my set up. Recently I went on a hike and fell out of favor with large fixed blades, bowies in particular. I've got to do a little more trial and error but I'm leaning toward just an RC3, back up folder, and either a machete or tomahawk depending on terrain.

I like your thinking, take an ax to do ax work. I still like the big knives but IMO they just don't do any one task all that well to be worth their weight.

I'm at a cross roads myself. I'm thinking a fixed blade is only good for summer time as an emergency back up for the times I don't take my tomahawk/hatchet. For bad weather, I'm thinking a SAK Farmer and either my CS Trail Hawk or my GB Mini are all I need. The problem is I like knives so much that I keep trying to force myself into carrying a fixed all the time.:o

Here's a pic of my choppers. The two knives have been passed along. Both totally capable though.

Then the SAK or Izula I edc based on how I'm feeling that day. I need to get a pic of my new Koyote Stead knife. My "summer" knife.:D I need to get new pictures all around actually. The blade on the Izzy is stripped and patina'd.

Here are my two.

This one is my version of the E.Kreps knife.

And this one is my version of the Horace kepharts design.

I normally carry these two when woods roaming.

If I need more cutting or chopping power I use my axe or my BIG knife.

OK, I'll play.

Probably one of these two; ML Knives Kephart and Nessmuk;

Of course the Bushcrafter/Bushbaby are also right up there; (mine and my sons set).

It's been seeing more food prep than anything else recently though....

In addition, I like my SAK Farmer or Swisstool Spirit. Sometimes Spyderco Para-military 2 or Military.

I have a 14" Condor El Salvador in brand new Kiah Kydex that I suspect might become a favorite as well.... :)

I don't feel the need to limit my blade selection. I know I would not choose two of the same size as my only ones.
This is what I am carrying now, but the selection is a work in progress, and changes are coming.

Still carrying a mix of these, I like the new gerber though, worked very well for cleaning. Did some quick work on a 300 lbs white tail. :D

Favorite trio for most of what I take on a daily basis.

One of these combos is what I whittled myself down to:

Although I usually don't carry the Leuku in the last pic.

I have a feeling the Busse CABS will be tagging along when it gets here.

I also have my SAK Outrider in my pocket all the time.

I see you finally picked up an E2DL, Ben :)

To add to my first post, I also really like the Vic OHT. Sold mine a while ago, but I've really been missing it...so it looks like I'm going to have to pick up another. The W&SS necker is another favorite, though it sees a little less use since it's in my PSK.

If we're talking heavier work, I carry a Silky Super Accel 210 w/ Large teeth in my hiking pack, and I can always swap-in/add the machete mentioned above or my convexed 14" Fiskars hatchet.

It's called the Gerber Evader hydration pack, but I don't think they make it anymore. I got it on clearance from knifecenter for $20. I did a quick Google of it and it seems some discount sites might still have them for cheap.

though i sometimes rotate fixed, Esee 4 is my fav. usually paired with and Izula or emerson A-100. always a vic hiker in my pocket
