I just thought that sinceit's a rainy day, I'd jot down some random thoughts on knife collecting and my two favorite companies.
Now, everyone has their favorite knife, and favorite company. I'm glad there are outlets like this to share our diverse oopinions without (always) having to get defensive about our preferences. Sometimes our likes are based on good experience with a company, sometimes on the performance of their product, and sometimes on sentimentality.
Having said that, here are my two favorite companies.
Kershaw - for modern designs, I think Kershaw gives tremendous bang for the buck, time and again. I have a Leek in my pocket every day, and for me it is a perfect companion.
I love the range of speed-safe designs - the Blur is another favorite of mine. The fact that Thomas interacts with his customers here in such an open way is just icing on the cake - and that he caters to us 'knife nuts' with so many special editions is outstanding...except for my pocket book. I'm beginning to fall behind!
I bought the two S30V leeks, but have yet to get one of the new Ti-ZDPs, and still need to get the S30V Blur. on top of that, I may (I hope) have to start saving for a ZDP Blur!
Queen - I love slippys just as much as 'high speed' stuff. Queen (and by extension Schatt and Morgan) are a bastion of quality American traditional knifemaking.
The range of patterns and steels is great - I can buy an affordable D2 canoe for my pocket, or a nice ATS-34 English Jack for my collection case. In days where companies like CAMCO and brands like 'Old Timer' are disappearing, I hope my favorite has a long and happy life.
Have a great holiday!
