I just got these in from Bill Buxton. The smaller one is 7.25" overall and has a 2.75" cutting surface with a 15" haft ... Large hawk is 9" overall and 3.25 cutting surface , 3" spike sharpened on top and 18.5" haft. Thanks for looking

I really like the looks of them. What type of material are the heads and what wood was used on the handles. While you are at it how about some weights to.:D Thanks

Thanks Stumpy . I e-mailed Bill , He could answer those better than me . I really like them so far .

Jerry

Stumpy,

The heads were forged out of used 1" tie rods, I was told that some rods are 1095, and these rods I have do harden good in water like 1095. They hold an edge well and are really tough. The handle material is red oak that I cut from my farm a couple of yrs. back, I was using osage orange but found out real quick that it is to brittle, the oak will take quite a bit of abuse much like hickory.
As for the weights, I don't know, I just cut off a chunk of tie rod
and start working to the size and shape I want, maybe Jerry can weigh them if he has a small enough scale, and post it.
Thanks Jerry for posting the pics.

Very nice. I don't have any Hawks myself, but I sure do like to look at them and these two are great to look at.

Thanks , Keith and Brian ..

Brian , I took a look at your toy box , I'm very impressed . You have some great toys .

Later,
Jerry

:D Thanks, Jerry. As you probably saw, I have a couple of Bill's hawks myself. I'm sure you'll love yours even more when you have a chance to go out & play with 'em.
