If I was going to start up shop i would get a few million dollars together from my private equity group and go to Porsche engineering to develop a wiz bang super strong forged locking mechanism out of unobtanium built into a carbon fiber monocoque handle that I would develop with Lamborghini who is researching a cheaper FORGED COMPOSITE Carbon fiber with a golf club manufacture.

I would also used sealed bearings with synthetic grease like they do in high speed wheel hubs to make it water proof and smooth opening forever in any conditions. I would have variable rate springs assist it opening fast and an easy smooth closing with one hand, or have a spring delete option. I would have a flipper and usable thumbstuds that are nice and large for gloved hands. The blade would be held in place with 1 forged titanium nut similar to a formula 1 wheel. Then I would give it a cool tactical name like the Angel of Death.

the blades will come in 3.5 and 4 inches and have a few designed from speapoint to a japanese style tanto, Hinderer spanto, and warncliff, modified warncliff and be made out of laminated ZDP 189, or Hitatchi blue steel in the middle with a softer 420 J2 around it so it will be easy to sharpen like Japanese blades I have...also I would have a chisel grind edge option with a carbide edge. I will higher people from japan to forge the blades then have then ground to spec.

The customer will be able to customize his or her knife like they do a Porsche or Ferrari and order it online with the colors they want. I would create an assembly line and make it a production midtech custom to keep the cost down under 500 bucks. I wish William Henry did something cool like this because they are doing something like this now with fancy gentleman's folder knives and have not tapped into a more "mainstream" tactical folding market.

What do you guys think?

I think it only sounds financially sustainable in the place you have listed as your location. :D

Sadly, the people who like "cool tactical names" probably wouldn't even see the error here. :)

If you are going after that crowd, I suggest a cheap Chinese knife with some black and olive spray paint on it. Come up with an "extreme" logo, like a wolverine smoking a cigar. Make up some decals of it and slap 'em on the knife. Angel of Death is good. Maybe Angel of Death Evasion&Survival Model (Angel of Death ESM). Then say they are "For Professionals Only."

Charge about 150 retail for 'em. You'll sell a million of 'em with a wayyy higher profit margin.

You would have to go to Pandora first to get the Unobtanium. That would blow your budget.

I would put a LED display on the opposite side of the clip, where people could watch digital TV and browse the web, too...

Andre Tiba - Brazil

I wouldn't buy a knife made by car companies. Have you seen the other branded stuff those companies you've mentioned have put out over the years? And a forged lock mech? no thanks, milled would be nice though

Don't forget the laser sight so both you and the target can see where the blade will strike.

As a dual use function, the laser can also be used as a level to hang pictures in your mom's basement.

Hitatchi blue steel over a softer 420 J2 so it will be easy to sharpen like Japanese blades I have.

I'm not touching the rest of that, but you might wanna switch your steel order around unless you wanna blade that takes longer to sharpen than dull.

Carbon Fiber is old news. You want Magellan M5 Fiber!

More fire resistant than Nomex. Lighter and stronger than Kevlar. Not as brittle as Carbon Fiber. Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Makes the ShamWow look like an ordinary dish rag.

First I fixed the Typo's

Second I am not talking about weave Carbon fiber, I am talking about FORGED Carbon fiber...I looked it up. http://www.wired.com/playbook/2010/10/exclusive-callaway-lamborghini-forged-composite/

Third Porsche's technology starts where other car company's technology stops...have you guys ever driven the new 911's or the Boxster Spyder? I have ...amazing production cars...the only stuff that's better is a full handmade Ferrari 458 Italia. So watchmakers won't be needed...a modern racing engine actually has tighter tolerances than any watch.

Yep...and when my '09 997 Carrera gets out of the shop (3rd time in 8 months), I'll make you heck of a deal on it.

What's wrong with your 911? electronic's mechanical? They really stand by their warranty and will fix it.

First visit was due to an improperly installed water pump gasket. Last two visits are transmission related.

This is my 3rd Porsche and I love the brand, but warranty issues/customer service are definitely not their forte. Get a good one and they are fantastic cars. Get a bad one and you're in for a LOT of frustration and stress. Visit any Porsche forum and you'll find volumes of threads with similar stories. But this is a knife forum, so I'll leave it at that.

Bottom line, I feel your original post is pure fantasy due to the economic realities of today's world.

Seems like this guys wants to make one of these
