So here it is, what I am finally considering my finished Ka-bar project. The blade was given to me as a kid and has been on every camping trip since. I beat the hell out of the black finish in those years so recently I decided to have some fun with it and really make it mine. I stripped the coating on everything and polished the blade as much as I could handle, I believe I spent two afternoons with wet/dry paper, then forced a vinegar patina. Also took off the top guard so I can choke up and get more leverage on the straight blade forward of the serrations. And with a camping trip coming up I just had to make a sheath to match, carried it in the small of my back below my pack for about 6 miles and didn't even notice it.

I was the only one of my buddies with a large fixed blade. One had a small CRKT folder and the other a SAK. I let my brother borrow my old buck 110 so we could all have something to have some fun with. We decided to have a sail boat race in the creek so we all quickly got to carving out our designs. I could see they thought I was screwed with my kabar compared to their smaller blades but at the end of the carving guess who had the best boat? It sailed straight to victory.
