I’m taking off from SOG starting after work on Friday, July 26th for two weeks of vacation. I’ll be back in the office on Monday morning, August 12th. I’ll get to spend some quality time with my wife and two boys. We’re planning to zip up to Vancouver, BC (Canada) for a few days to see the sites. We heard there is a big firework display over the bay on August 3rd. Hopefully we’ll be able to see that.

Though I’ll still have my nose here in the forums quite a bit, my presence might be more sporadic than normal.

My “honorary co-moderator,” Bobby B, will keep an eye on things and will know when I’ll be out of town. He also has my phone numbers to get in touch if there’s a question or problem.

If anyone sees an issue here that requires immediate moderatoring, try emailing me (I’ll be monitoring my email from home), the site administrator, or a super moderator. Give a link to the thread. I don’t anticipate problems, because we’re the most well behaved forum here! :)

So, play nicely, guys! ;)

SPECIAL NOTE ADDED: I forgot to mention that if you have SOG business that requires attention, please direct it to my staff in the Consumer Services Department by calling them at 888.SOG.BEST/425.771.6230 or by emailing them at info@sogknives.com.

You may certainly post your need/request here and await a response. My request is that if I happen to be away and your post goes unanswered, dropping lower off the screen, just place another post in your thread with “BTTT” (meaning “Back To The Top”) and I’ll try not to miss it the second time.

Ron,

I'll be hangin' around, and I'll keep my eyes on things too; So relax, and have a NICE, refreshing vacation!.:).

Oh, and let us know how it was, going across the US/Canada Border with a pocket knife (or two) clipped to your pocket. Any restrictions/hassles? Were you asked if you had any knives/weapons by the border "control" officer?

Dann,

Thanks for "watching my back." I appreciate it. Make sure you wear your SOG shirt when hanging out in the SOG Forum! ;)

Ron: Yes, we're all nice boys (and *girls?) here. Happy Trails to you.
*p.s. Hello any lady SOG fans about this forum?

It won't take the whole family up to BC, but I'll work the new brakes on the Z real hard right before the speed traps. :D (At least that is the plan!)

Hey Ron....

Hope you enjoy your stay up here. The Fireworks are great, hope you are able to enjoy them.

Gord.

If you're going to the fireworks be prepared for the masses. People who act out in those masses can be pretty annoying.

Unless you're the social type and love people in mases then I would suggest against going right down to the beach to watch it. It can be so frustrating battling the crowds.

Hey if any **** goes down...call me and I'll help you battle evil with my Tomcat!!;)

BOK and Gord,

I'm not a big "crowds" and "beach" type person, so I was thinking about enjoying it from whatever hotel we stay at. Anyway, with the fireworks shooting off time being too close to bedtime for our little kids, we can manage it better from a hotel. Do either of you have suggestions on several hotels with a view of the bay? I'm open on price ranges.

Hey Ron...I can think of a few hotels there but none with a view of the fireworks...
I'll e-mail or post the details of one that I stayed at myself over last November but no view though. Maybe Gord will have a better suggestion...

Hell since your up here and can get tickets for it, there is a CART race up here on saturday.
Heck, thats tommorw!. Well have fun in Vancouver.

Hmm on later review, I now read that u have young kids and hate crowds. Well forget that idea then.

Have fun Ron and my advice is to forget about the work and email ;) Otherwise it won't be a vacation...

I believe most of the area around the bay is residential/light industrial. Not many Hotels I can think of. The tallest building in the city is the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre Hotel (1-604-331-1000) They might have a suitable suite for viewing the show or at least some of the higher flying fireworks. Fairly new building, well done and the prices would be at the higher end (Guessing $300 or $400 and up). But what do I know...I'm a Motel6 kinda guy. There are other less crowded beaches and public areas to watch from as well. We generally watch them from the North Shore which is on the other side of the city. Not the best but no crowds. :)

And that is about $10-20 US? ;) Math has never been my strong suit while on vacation!

Thanks, guys. I just put in almost 70 hours in the past five days at work (that doesn't count what work I do from home), so after I "crash" tonight, I'll start making some plans.

This week has been a KILLER in just about a zillion ways.

I just have to share this. The best and brightest part of today (and more needed than you can even imagine) was a call I received from the box office of The Fifth Avenue Theatre (we've been season subscribers there for about eleven years with fourth row, center stage, Saturday night seats :D ), with a call that reaped me the very first choice (I was her first call...which is a story by itself) for seating of any performance of my choice for the upcoming Les Miserables performances coming next year! Though first row seats were available and very tempting, it does hurt the neck looking UP so steeply, so I bought not two, but four seats, center stage in row three. :) On a day I felt like crying more than once in frustration, I did shed a tear of shear joy! You should have seen me juggling two phones: the box office on in one ear and my wife in my other ear (with her calendar for scheduling) both going at the same time. My staff was laughing at me. I didn’t care!

And – Gator is quite right – take some breath of e-mail and moderating, we will try to be nice enough to do not break your after-vacation good mood when you will be back ;)

Haha, thats right!!!
My tomcat is also ready for action.
That makes two tomcats backing you up.

As for hotels, I don't know any more than BOK and Gord.
Its kinda sad, one would think living here my whole life so far would have know everything thats here.

Who knows? Maybe I'll see a 300ZX wandering around aimlessly.
Anyways, hope you enjoy the sites/scenery and fireworks and enjoy the lower currency.

Hey Ron...
