Thanks to many members here, I finally have a Variable speed KMG knife grinder up and running. It took a long while to save the cash/sell my collection to purchase it. Collecting the parts took some time and the generosity and knowledge of some members here certainly played a big part in my getting this grinder, and getting it up and running.
The specs are as follows:
KMG grinder with a 2HP variable speed drive
Flat platten tool attachment
10" Contact sheel attachment
3/4" small wheel attachment
It's all mounted on a welded steel pedestal made from 1/2" plate top and bottom with an 6"x8" I-beam post that has 3/8" webs. The motor is a 2hp Leeson driven by a Toshiba 2hp rated VFD for variable speed operation.
All in all it's a mind blowing grinder. powerful, versatile and all mine! While teh stock KMG shows up in plain raw steel, mine is painted with 4 coats of Hammerite dark blue textured rust preventative paint.
Special thanks go out to the following Blade Forums members:
Rob Frink for building such an awesome machine
Michael Kanter (adammichael) for providing the 2HP Leeson motor for shipping costs.
PSO for hooking me up with the Toshiba VFD for a beyond friendly price.
RFrink, PSO and Micad for getting me the info I needed and isnpiring the confidence to wire this monster all up.
Thanks guys, your help has been above and beyond.
Heres a couple pics:
In one of the pics you might catch the welding curtains I use to isolate my grinding area from the rest of my shop. I need to re-plumb my dust collector, but that's a task for another day.
