hi everyone! would just to post a couple of photos of a mod i did to an old griptilian i have... i decided to do this after i bought and edc'd a spydrco delica with the wave feature. I liked the feature so much that i began to research on homemade "waves".And i saw them being cut into the top of the blade (this seems the most popular of choices) but being from the Philippines the knives here are harder to come by, I wanted a "non-invasive" form of modification...and so i began thinking on how to put a " wave" on a knife with a thumb stud without having to cut into the blade.

And this is what i have come up with:

i cut up an old stainless 1" washer into the rough form and began slowly grinding it down with a dremel until i had the shape i wanted but after a couple of days in my back pocket i think I'm going to have to cut it down a little. also any input you guys have would be appreciated

Gills

p.s. apologies to Emerson knives for using the name.... its the easiest way to describe the pocket opener...:):D

WOW, I must say this is interesting, a first I have seen! what you did seems pretty realistic, you did not have to change the blade at all. Good job!

I know I modified my Cara-Cara to do the same, I just opened the thumb hol, rounded out the top, and smoothed the spine and done!

That DOES seem like it'd be pretty obtrusive in the pocket... other than that, however, good on ya for solving your own problem in a relatively novel way!

Lucky bob: actually it isnt obtrusive in the pocket.. the only reason i wanna cut down the part is because it catches too well in the pocket... hehehe it ends up pulling my pants up or to the back...

Rugershooter16: thanks for the encouragement , have seen the cut off hole and i personally wouldnt wanna have to do that with my knife. (although ive seen it very effective) thats why i wanna start thinking on how to do it for knives with a hole hehehe

Clever!
I'm curious though, don't the grips flick out as quickly as other axis locks?

In other words, was it the novelty, curiosity if it would work, or actual utility that caused you to do this?

bobofish:they do flick out just as quickly as other axis locks.. but i usually have one hand busy so it really helps to have a knife that opens when its drawn. so for me its the utilityO(not to mention that i do like a good project to work with once in a while.... :-)
