I've been getting inquiries about making a version of the Nessmuk. This is what I've come up with. It's a slimmer version with a different handle style. I started with 5/32" thick by 1 1/4" wide O1. The blade is 4 1/2" long with a 4" cutting edge. The handle is 4 1/2" long. The blade is slightly under 1 1/4" at the widest point. I need honest opinions. If you think it sucks, tell me :D I can always keep in line with making the original design. I just wanted to add my own flair to it. :) Sorry about the bad pics, :o I had to take in the house. Thanks
Scott

I like the look of it very much. Looks like it will make an excellent hunting/bush knife.

That's a good looking knife. I like the full flat grind, at least it looks that way from the first picture. The handle is an interesting variation. I like the full tang, micarta slabs would be my first choice.

Actually it's a full convex grind :D (forgot to mention that). I can bring the edge down thin with 5/32" stock.

I think it totally sucks!

You should quickly finish it up and send it to me to hide it from your other customers before it ruins your reputation.

And to make sure you don't make this mistake again send me one as well so I could remind you from time to time.. :p

I like the design and particularly the location of the point pretty near inline with the spine side of the handle. It would work great on anything bigger than a rabbit. That is the only flaw that I see with the design is that the point is sufficiently broad that it would be hard to slip into the pelvis of a rabbit. If the blade was a bit narrower or the point was stretched out a bit you would be left with a more accute point that would work better on small game and birds. Of course you can screw up a design by trying to make it fit too wide a range of applications, so feel free to ignore what I just wrote.

Thanks Jeff, for the suggestions. I know what you mean about the point. I was trying to stay close to the original shape, just not as wide.

The more I think about this idea, the more I feel it would be best to recreate the Nessmuk to it's original design. I've gotten feedback on another forum and it's seems the original is quite well liked. :)

I kinda like the "hump" on original Nessmuk too. That's what makes it stand out. In my opinion the preservation of original design is a great idea. Thanks!

Thanks buddy. ;) I'll finish the above knife and put it up for sale but with the different comments and feedback, I feel sticking to the original design is the best bet.

Scott - you and I must be connected........I just drew up what I am going to call a Neck Nessmuk because I want it to stay about 6" overall.....

Thanks LB. :) I have a nice big block of curly maple. Thought that would be nice to put on it. :D

That's real nice. The only thing I would change is to make the hump higher. To my understanding the hump was for when you were cutting up the legs and stuff before skinning so you wouldn't dig the tip into the meat. While that much hump would probably make it work OK I'd want a little more to keep the tip a big higher

FWIW I like your version Scott, it seems to me a bit more practical and the lines are great. I see no reason not to offer this pattern as wel as a more faithful rendition of the Nessmuk pattern.
