I bought my first Buck today. I was out looking for the 560 but the store that sold them said they shipped all of the ones they had in stock to New Jersey:grumpy: . They did, however, have another model on the shelf. The limited edition 110 Centennial for the same price that the 560s were($40). It has nickel bolsters and grey wood insterts. The blade has a deer cutout and says Buck Custom U.S.A. I'm afraid to use this knife for everyday use because of the cutout:o . Was this knife made to be a user or to look pretty? I'd really like to use this knife but don't want to ruin it.

FWIW knives such at this with a design cut into the
blade are primarily collectors items. While they
can be used the design cutout does weaken the
blade quite a bit. :(

If you like the handle set up and REALLY want to
use the knife you can send the knife back to Buck
and get the blade swapped out for a steel of your
choice in a using blade. They will keep the blade
that came with the knife however.

While on the surface this swap may seem a bit
extreme it will offer you a chance to own "your"
own version of a really great knife. ;) Otherwise
buy a regular Buck 110 and display the one you
have.:D

Good luck, mate. Enjoy!!!!!

Congrats on getting your first Buck. It all starts with the first one :)

I'm not sure, but if it was mine I would put it on the wall and get a plain 110 to use.

How much does the blade swap cost(for same steel) and where can I contact them? Thanks.

On the side of the box it says it's cen3. At the place I got it, I noticed there were other boxes that say cen4. Does the cen4 have a cutout too? I've seen the 110 with the same handles and a regular blade. could the cen4 be the one with a regular blade? Thanks for you time.

Contact Joe Houser at Buck as he should be able to
answer all your questions or call Buck customer
service they can also tell you what you need to
know. They have really great customer service at
Buck so good luck. :D

i have one of the new centinial blades as well. i got it back in 2002 i guess. it has no blade cutout but the handle seems really nice and has a centenial medalion dealy in it. i can say that it is definatly a good working knife if you want to use it as such.

I sent a copy of this thread to Joe.

I would buy another one...but I am biased here aren't I???

Folding Hunters are such a value I truly would buy another as the work knife and display the one you have. Joe may know more about the cost of the blade swap but just thinking about the labor involved it seems that for about the same money youwould have two knives instead of just one...

If you have your eye on getting a special steel than the swap makes more sense.

i think it would be better to just buy another one. With the blade swap cost and the cost of shipping it's probably just a better idea to get another on as a user. Or if you can just return the one you have right now and get another one if possible

I contacted Joe and he said the blade swap would be 15USD. I like the inserts and bolsters on this model. I was planning on getting a 560 but they had shipped 'em off. I'm not much of a collector anyway and it would be nice to have a "one of a kind" knife.
