I'm thrilled! A little over a month ago I asked Diego Attwell, an Argentine ABS Journeyman Smith, to make a me a folder similar to the one found on the body of English mountaineer George Mallory.

I've always loved the classic English lambsfoot knives, and I'm starting my very own outdoors and cutlery store called Mallory, so it seemed like the perfect excuse to get a custom piece.

You can see some pictures here:

The blade is O1 the handle has some nice pieces of Patagonian stag, brass liners and nickel silver bolsters. The file work on the backspring is simple, I didn't want anything too complex. This is going to be a working knife, it would be a shame to leave it on a shelf collecting dust.

That is a very beautiful knife. The stag is killer too. I enjoyed the pictures.

That's a great knife, Franciscomv. For your first custom you did good. I also enjoyed seeing the progression of the construction in your pictures.
A reproduction of a historic knife like Mallory's is a cool idea.
I googled and googled and googled but was only able to fine one picture of the one they found on Mallory's body. It was a very small picture and I was not able to enlarge it much without losing detail.
His knife and snow goggles.

Great knife, thanks for sharing and the best of luck on your store.

very nice...will your shop be selling the "Mallory" as a stocked item? If your smith wants to make more of them of course, perhaps a knife named for each peak Mallory climbed.

Great looking knife. I hope it brings you luck while it is doing tasks in your new store!

I'm glad you gents like it. My girlfriend was less than thrilled with it, apparently she thinks custom slippies could become a new addiction.

Absintheur, I'm trying my best to talk Diego into letting me handle his sales. :-) Or at least some of them.
