I have seen it done many times, but I had to finally do it for myself. Here is the result - my first forced patina. The knife is a carbon steel Svord. I first wrapped the blade in a paper towel that had been soaked with red wine. I then stuck the knife in a potato for a short time. Finally, I layered the blade with a coating of mustard and mustard seeds. I like the result. Comments are welcome.

*Edit* I also did some edge work and put on a convex edge.

Very nice! Gotta love patinas. How difficult would you say it was to put a convex edge on the svord?

If I'm competely honest, I am very much a novice at convex edges. They just don't come out razor sharp for me. It might be because I get impatient and then start using too much pressure. On this knife, I spent a couple hours, going through the different grits. Some points of the very edge have not even been touched yet (that doesn't indicate too much pressure). I have only done one other convex edge, on a Benchmade Griptilian (154CM), and it came out sharp but not REALLY sharp. This edge was easier to sharpen than the 154CM but it takes a good amount of time to knock down those shoulders.
