I ordered some 440c. micarta and all the screws and stuff I will need from Texasknives.com. My plan is, my first knife I ever make will be a wharne friction folder. chisel ground 1/8 440c. If it can be heat treated in a reg oven (input suggested here) then I will heat treat it myself. If not Texasknife does heat treats so I will send it to them to get done. thats only if I like it enough.

these are the blade, ground and shaped. I have a template i am working from (loosely) but am pretty much making it up as I go.

Good start and good idea with the proper safety equipment. If by regular oven you mean the one that cooks your dinner, texas knife should do the heat treat. Have fun.

Thanks.

that is what I meant.

Yea, I figure breathing metal dust and micarta is prolly pretty bad for ya

Nice! I was going to try a friction folder next. I have a couple of hunters and a necker in the works.

Thinking of sending mine to TKS too. If you get around to it before me, let us know how it goes so i can know what to expect etc.. How much do they charge per blade?

what kind of tools are you using?

I'm to lazy to look right now, but I think it is around 10$/blade
