Haven't been on here in a while. Just thought I'd post some pics of my FBM. Jerry and his crew did a great job on getting it to me while I was overseas and the Pucketts (hope I spelled the name right) made me one heck of a great leather sheath for it via email correspondence. I really, really appreciate y'all and love this thing.

... Oh, and is it possible to have these knives sent in for new handles?

Wow....that is one hard ass BM. That is awesome!!!! Jaxx take note!!!

Send it to the shop and they can rehandle it......give them a call to work out the logistics of it.

By the way......what were you doing to chip the handle?

Holy C:eek:W!!!! WHAT did THAT KNIFE TAKE to look like THAT????? LOL, Got PIX??? ... Looks like it still falls under the warranty, I think, concerning the grips...

Edited to ADD: Gravelface, got my Edge Pro in, as soon as I figure it out, mine'll be back to new_ish in no time. :D

Looks great. Send it in and they'll take care of you.

Give them a call at the shop 419 923 6471 so that they know it's coming and to get instructions on shipping

:D:D

INCREDIBLE !!!! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Get some more pics before you get it cleaned up, you'll do great in the next "show us your beater (knife)" contest !

Awesome looking BM, it's been through some stuff eh???

Thanks for the pics.

How many enemy tanks did you pry open with that thing???:p

Seriously, that knife exemplifies everything these knives are about--hard use, kickin' butt, and no regrets. And you're about to find out just how great that Busse warranty is. Heck, you'll hardly recognize her when she gets back.

Thanks for the pics!

Wow! That's what I'd call a well-loved mistress! It actually looks better all beat to hell like that- it looks MEAN! It's interesting how the corrugations stopped the flaking of the coating. One more advantage nobody's come across yet? I'd be interested in hearing how the handle got chewed up like that as well. Whatever it was, I sure wouldn't have wanted my hand anywhere near it when it happened!

Excellent work, sir!

I came across it long ago.

It's odd how his coating seems to have chipped away rather than worn, as mine did.

I stand corrected. I don't remember reading of that particular benefit in any of the threads about corrugations. It seems to work, in any event. My theory as to why the coating has chipped rather than worn on this particular mistress is that it was being used for some pretty high-impact stuff. Like chopping through rocks or something similar. I wonder if "chippiness" is inherent to the OD Green coating? If so, that's bad news- most of my Busses, including my mistress, are OD. I haven't had any problems with chipping, but I haven't "taken it to the limit" the way this gentleman has. If I didn't live in the city, perhaps I could do more field testing!

You just gotta take time to get out of the city! Go on, git!

I mentioned it in my thread about sanding the texture of the scales, if I remember correctly, but it would have been easy to read over.

You're probably right about the impact. It's also only chipped off like that on one side of the blade, so I'm imagining heavy impacts at an angle into something very abrasive, or perhaps some scraping.

I've noticed in the blades I've owned that the crinkle coating is much more prone to chipping away than the gritty tan coating, which is a totally different feel and texture from the crinkle coating. It's one of the reasons I like tan blades so much, I think the coating is much nicer and lasts longer.

As long as you have a back yard, you could always pick up some big logs to beat on and test your blades out.

Thanks, I did polish the bare steel a bit after the coating wore away to prevent the pits left from the heat treatment collecting rust, but the bevel stopping the coating wear like that occurs totally naturally.

Bjorn, I would not send it in just yet. Here is what you do. Take 120 grit sand paper and work the damamge out of the handles until it is all gone, then transition to 220 or 320 and finish it off. You can go to 600 to get even finer but no need really. I would not waste my time replacing the handles yet. Besides the damage gives it character, why change it.

On another note, is the stuff along the edge rust or dirt? If it is rust, that thing had to be sitting out in real bad elements for sometme. Anyway looks good. Regrind the edge and bring it to a nice polish as it will take more abuse that way.

Wow. Thanks for the feedback guys. I can't fully express how much I love this knife! Yeah, I kinda beat her up a little bit, but I can't think of a better piece of steel I'd rather have in my hand for anything not too meticulous. The broken area of the handles doesn't really bother me during use really, and I sort of do like the idea of smoothing it out and leaving some 'scars'. I usually wore Mechanix brand gloves when I used this thing.. the ones with the little rubber pieces on the knuckles and fingers. I have played with the magnum handles, though, and I think they would be much more comfortable in my particular bare hand.
