Hello, all. I finally got my small Victorinox keychain knife back from repair shop. I carry the exact same model in blue on my keychain. The wait was long (as it seems to be with other members) but at least it's something considering that I found it all beaten up in a drawer. I don't have pics of it's original condition but it's pretty much the same as pics down below except broken off scales and missing toothpick & tweezer. Those were replaced with new ones but the blade stays rusted and dull-tipped. I thought repair shop would do something about the rust but then again maybe I was expecting a little too much. The wait was 2 and a half months (from mid November 2011 to 2/2/2012) and about 4~5 e-mails from my side to get the status. Anybody else with Victorinox repairshop experience (with pics)? I'd like to hear more. Thx!

What was wrong with the knife for you to send it in for repair?

I usually have long wait times especially around the end of the year when everyone else sends in their stuff for warranty repair. 8-10 weeks is the normal but I have even had to wait 12 weeks before.

That "rust" is probably just some caked on crud that should come off if you use a single edge flat razor blade and scrape it off. Use the same razor and clean out that filthy nail nick too! ;)

Some time ago, maybe last year, I sent my sister in laws classic back because one scale fell off, and the other one was cracked. I don't recall how long it was, but it was long enough that I thought about calling them. Maybe a month, month and a half. Anyway, it came back finally, but it took a while. They put two new scales on, and new tweezer to replace the one that got lost when the scale fell off.

Victorinox can be slow, but they will get to you.

I don't think that is rust, so much as buildup gunk. I've never seen a Vic rust, even when mine has been in salt water.

Carl.

It had broken off scales, sticky dirts all over the joint, and missing toothpick & tweezer.
They cleaned some of that sticky dirts off for me but as you can see, it still looks dirty and that "rust" is really rust or corrosion on the blade.

LOL, and that filthy nail nick...I gotta try with razor like you said cuz it didn't work with toothpicks. They offered cleaning service on the form and I put check mark on the box as well. If they were able to clean it out, I wonder why didn't they?

Hit the blade and pivot area with a Q-tip soaked in WD-40. The mineral spirits component will emulsify and remove that (apparent) goo. Then your Classic SD will be happy and ready for action.

:rolleyes:I can't believe this. Clean the thing up and sharpen it yourself. You could have done it in the time it took to take and post all those pictures. It's a $10.00 knife.

I would've just bought another one, I consider classics to be disposable. Don't get me wrong they're great knives but i couldn't imagine it would be worth it to pay shipping and wait for it to be sent back..
