Read where early Spartans didn't have toothpick , tweezers and key ring. When they where added to the Spartan a new model called the weekender was made that was the old Spartan configuration. I doesn't look broke off or ground down any where around where the key ring should be.

So I made it a sheath, not to bad for a fleamarket find in the "Every Knife in this box is $4" box.

Any ideas, suspicions or thoughts ?

I don´t know what should be missing on this Spartan. But you´re right, the keyring is missing. I think that should have someone ground down in the past... it´s a nice older Vic. Nice find, Sir! Imo the Spartan is a little too big for keyring carry, anyway ;)

The Spartan is one of the most useable SAKs out there.

to be honest i prefer that 100 times better, all my saks have ground off keyrings, i hate them and it makes the knife look toyish (ONLY IN MY OPINION).

I'm guessing it was ground off as well (but very nicely), why else would there be this bump sticking out at the end of the spring?

And mine get the same treatment as well. I've never used the keyring and find it very uncomfortable.

They made models without keyrings. That looks too perfect to be a grind job, you can still see the uneven pattern on the surface of the insert.

It does look toyish but add a lanyard and it goes away. Hidden in plan site, I guess. I watch pocket carry non pocket clip knives and a lanyard just make getting it out super easy.

In the 3rd pic you can see it's perfectly flat and only bumps out when the blade is open . It's the only spine that rises a little in the open position, with out the bump the awl point would be sticking out and could poke you.

Good point, that bump is what confused me. On the newer models it somehow doesn't stick out when the screwdriver is open...
