Well, 2 days ago, it was a nice sunny Colorado day, and I did not have to work. So I decided to take a little trip down to the Spyderco Outlet store, and visit the factory. I am glad that I live in Good old CO, but it was still an hour drive.

Well, I went there, and the first thing that I noticed is that the people are VERY friendly (I actually noticed this when I called for directions, and people were extremely willing to help me out). Anyway, if you have not visited the Spyderco Factory you should, not only are the people extremely friendly, but they are very knowledgeable!!! I also work in a knife store, and it is extremely refreshing to find people who share the love I have for knives. I had a great time and appreciate all of your help. Unfortunately, I believe that Sal was out of town, but I did get to have a very long conversation with his Son, and several other people who I believe have a presence on this forum. After I played with several knives, (Including some rarer Spydercos and some CRKs) I went up the road to the factory, where I was again greeted by very friendly customer relations. Olive came down (whom I have talked to in emails) and I got a chance to enter the John Row Contest, unfortunately, I did not win, but it went to a great cause. Every one at Spyderco had the best things to say about John (colobbfan) so I fell like my money is in a good place. I know that I am probably rambling, but I just wanted to share my info with you guys on how nice, friendly and knowledgeable the people (The Spyderco Family) are. Sal, ask your son if he wants that Micarta Goddard.

On another note, Sal, I brought my Benchmade 42 Balisong along with me, and was going to show it to you along with the receipt, it was purchased in CO (I ended up leaving it in the car because you were not there). There are several VERY reputable knife stores in Colorado, that sell balisongs, now carry, that's a different matter, but PLEASE make a balisong!!! It would be the best and I know it would be a good seller, I would buy several, and I would carry them at my store. PLEASE??? I would even be willing to help out if it was necessary...

Thanks again Spyderco, I had a great day!!!

I called the store the other day to ask a question, very polite folks. Someday if I get that far west I'll have to drop in! RKBA!

Mmmatrix, what do you feel that Spyderco could contribute to a Balisong that has not already been done by Benchmade? I ask this sincerely, because, IMO a Balisong is a very basic knife, and I just don't see WHY Spyderco should bother trying to compete on this market, unless there might something additional that they can provide. A spyderhole wouldn't do much on that baby. Let me know. thanks.

Probably just the fact that there will be more quality balis to choose from. Not everyone likes the limited selection of benchmade balisongs.

I've started a thread over on the Balisong Forum relating to Spyderco and its original balisong design. Here is the url:

The wife and I came up to Denver this week from NE Oklahoma for a Belgian Malinois dog show on Friday. Yesterday we drove up to Golden for my first ever trip to the SFO. The people were nice. They answered questions and sharpened both Spydies I happened to be carrying (G-10 Harpy and plain edge Shabaria). After I had looked over everything I asked them about going down the street to the Factory. Two guys both told me "no" because he said they don't encourage visitors or give tours. I pointed out that people on BF say they have gone in the door and the one guy shifted around a little and said, "well, it takes prior planning." He also said Sal is busy getting ready for a big knife show which I totally understand. My piddly ten knife Spyderco collection isn't a big enough deal to bother somebody like Sal but it seems like they could have some Customer Relations/Public Relations people that could give quick tours to knife folks.

I'm thinking about going back this afternoon or tomorrow so they can have a crack at sharpening my Military. Any chance of a 20 minute tour?

Gregg

Hi Gregg. Sorry for your disappointment on a tour. We have on accassion given tours to people that contacted us several weeks in advance so we can make arrangements.

This week was not a good time. Michelle, Joyce, Jeff, Vince and I leaving for the Blade Show. Perhaps another time.
