Well i finally got a chance to get out in the woods. This weekend was one that I have been looking forward to and dreading at the same time. I took my oldest out for his first time ( he is 8 years old). I could not have asked for a better way to introduce him to hunting. Our morning started out around 5:30am. Can you see the excitement. LOL

We headed out to my favorite spot. We got half way there and kicked a giant buck out of the creek. We were only about 15 yards away when it jumped. The buck stopped around 100 yards from us and turned to face us. It was just light enough out for him to be curious. The buck started walking towards us. I felt alright until He started looking very agitated by us being there. The whole time my boy just stared at the monster in front of him. Finally the buck decided that it wanted nothing to do with us and took off. I decided that we would just pick a spot and hunker down in hopes the buck would circle around.
Right before I took this picture a pack of coyotes let loose. The howls and barks were very loud. I guessed they were a mere 400 yards away. I made sure he was close but never let him know that even my stomach sank a little hearing it.

Here is a view of the field and tree line we were over looking.

We came across a few nice scrapes and beds.

We did a little bit of stalking, since he was rather restless after about 30 min of sitting. I didn't think he would make it that long. LOL After about two hours of hunting and walking it started to rain. We decided to head back to the truck to warm up.

He really wanted to try and call the deer one more time with my doe bleat on the way out, so we stopped in the wood line. Now I had been praying that we would at least get to see a deer in the daylight before we left. God answered that pray. We sat down on a stump about 20 yards from were we started the morning. He started to get a little call crazy, just kept flipping the can over and over. LOL Well the rain picked up and I called the hunt. As we got up and started to walk to the truck a doe jumped up 30 yards away. I watch his eyes light up and then heard him yell "why aren't you shooting it" I started laughing and told him I am not that good of a shot with a bow. All I heard on the way home was him asking when we could go back out.
This was by far one of the best outings that I have ever had.

We even got a chance to work on camouflage and cover. I think he will be just fine when he gets older. This was taken with very little coaching from me.

Yes there is a little boy sitting in that picture. LOL
