I saw a youtube thing called men with a pot. And was inspired to do what is basically camp-fire cooking. Which is a combination of rustic outdoors living and needing a truck full of supplies to actually do it.

Anyway. The knife portion of this is the camp cooking modified clever. Because part of the romance is pulling out a honking great big knife to cut my onions or something.

I have the men with the pot knife. Which is ok but a bit expensive and just got my off grid grizzly. Which I am having lots of fun with.

And I was wondering if anyone else had this super niche knife intrest. And what are you guys packing.

The largest I've used for food prep is the Varusteleka Skrama. It suffers from being a tad thick but did the job well otherwise.

I love the idea behind this thread!

My mods to this antique cleaver turned into a fine nessie type camp knife, shown here getting some chicken stew ready for memorial day

I mean, I didn't have that niche knife interest. But I do now. lol

I once used a 16" machete to open up a coconut in the kitchen and it only took a bit of time to clean up the mess. The big chopper I use for cooking now is a cleaver that was hand hammered by a street merchant in South Korea. I used it just the other day to cut off a chunk from an overly large package of hamburger from the ranch to make dinner last night. The knife I use the most in the kitchen these days is my cleaveresque Shun Classic Nakiri Knife, seen in lower picture. Nessmuks would be pretty handy too and give you that old timey camp cook feeling, especially if they have a flat grind (some of them come with a Scandi grind for reasons).

You're not alone in your love for modified cleavers for camp cooking! They're a great choice for chopping veggies, meat, and other camp kitchen tasks.
The "Men with the Pot" knife is a popular option, but there are many out there. Look for keywords like "camp cleaver" or "kitchen chopper" to find different styles and price points. You might also consider checking out bushcraft forums for inspiration and recommendations from other enthusiasts.
