So last night I'm watching TV and my wife says: "I just figured out what knife I want." So I said what knife is that ?
She says "The little one on your keys, It's really useful. Can I get it in Purple ?"
The knife on my keys is a Spyderco Ladybug in Foliage Green.
I've been trying to get her to carry something for a couple months now, but she always says "I don't need a knife, you always have one"
That's why I was floored when she asked for one. I was trying to get her into a Delica, or a Dragonfly, but this is a start.
I wanted her to see how useful it is as a tool, and that it's not a scary weapon.
Hopefully she will get the knife bug too.
Anyone else going through this with their wife or significant other ?

Well I have a hard problem getting girlfriends or family members who are female to carry a blade. That is great news and a good knife to get started. Not too expensive but still decent quality.

Haha I met my girlfriend in September of last year, since then she has known me to carry three knives with me wherever I go, about a month after I met her she decided that whittling paper with my razor sharp edges was a fun pastime, and she decided she had to have one, she had an old one from her dad that she had gifted to me, knowing I would enjoy it (cheaper SAK) and fell in love with my Spyderco Cricket, with it's reverse S blade it makes for a very useful little blade for her and she uses it often. About 7 months later I bought a blue Mini Griptilian and sent her a pic of a matching pionk one, long story short she owns a pink Mini Grip with a sheepsfoot blade and absolutely loves it.

...Maybe I just got lucky ;)

My girlfriend really liked the spyderco bug, so i got her one. I also got her a victorinox classic SD in pink alox. The knife after that that she liked was a kershaw rainbow chive. shes a big fan of kershaw. when i worked in a shop, the snap on guy came by and i saw a toxic green blur. She REALLY wanted it but by the time i could get it it was gone and he couldn't find anymore. My only gripe with the chive is it isn't very smooth opening, it's slippery and the lock is REALLY early. So i ordered all new hardware from kershaw, hopefully it will fix the assisted opening issue. I'm wondering if the spring is just warn out. She doesn't like my CRK carbon fiber sebenza, buck 110 or spyderco military. She likes my ESEE 4 in Venom green/orange, my caly 3 in carbon fiber, any of my victorinox SAKs and a few other odd ones.

Good stories guys, I'm hoping she will get into them more, but this is a great start. I'm kinda excited.

I got my GF a kershaw scallion (lost in a week) and considered giving her my mnandi but thats going to a buddy's son when he hits 7 years old.

My wife has a couple spyderco's but just recently has she actually started to instinctively reach for them. She has a purple delica and a pink dragonfly, the delica stays clipped in her purse if she needs a bigger knife and the dragonfly often gets dropped in her purse's outside pocket or even a jacket pocket.

Every now and then she comes home telling a story about how one of them was very useful, or how she was the only mom with a knife while they were passing out new soccer pads or whatever else needed packaging opened or cut or whatever. She doesn't at all consider it carrying a weapon and isn't scared to let her girlfriends know she has a knife or (gasp) two knives at one time.

I tried to start her off with a white ladybug I dyed pink a while ago, she wasnt having it, she agreed to get the pink dragonfly at that point but she had no interest in a ladybug, she said if she was gonna carry a knife she wanted a knife, not a keychain. It was only a very short period of her having the dfly before she wanted a delica. What I think surprised her most was how much she still uses the Dfly even tho she has the delica with her most of the time as well, she loves the finger choil for precise blade control, I've not seen her grip the knife without using it.

Also don't forget, when your showing her other knives show her things she likes and ask what features she likes best, don't just assume she likes something cause you think she should and it comes in pink/purple.

Same story, my girlfriend wasn't carrying anything till I met her. Well except for a cheep liner lock stashed in a pack, for SD. She's lost a couple Benchmade's, had carried a CS Recon 1, and really enjoys her Kershaw Blur Tanto and Cryo. I'll be replacing her Benchmade Grip and Presidio Ultra, both lost, with a 707. Let's hope she holds onto it his time.

When me and my Girlfriend started dating 2 years ago, that is when I first started getting into knives and carrying everyday. After receiving my CRKT M16, I spent hours searching for knives and all that. When I was ready to purchase my next she said she wanted one, so we searched for her too. Since then her collection consist of a purple Spyderco Ladybug, pink Boker Subcom, Spyderco Ambitious, Boker Credit Card knife, and a pink Victorinox Classic Sd. Her go to knife is usually the Spyderco Ladybug.

I know how you feel. My wife will sit there and struggle to open or tear something and I'll say, "you know you can have your pick of any knife over here" as I point to the toolbox full of them. I finally decided I'd make here a little EDC kit for her purse and now she always has a knife and even added a Leatherman Micra to the mix.

It's a Maxpedition micro pocket organizer with a SAK Classic in argyle (gotta go with what she loves), Streamlight Microstream, hand sanitizer, sewing kit, lighter, memo pad / small pencil, and some adhesive ripstop nylon patches. The other day she got home and was excited to let me know that someone needed something cut and she had the tools to handle it.

That's a cool kit.

Very nice kit. I need to start getting more kits and such. Not just knives haha. As soon as i see my gorlfriend again, probably at christmas, i will be getting her a dragonfly. Her request. :)

I have a carried a knife all my life an finally one of my children asked me for a knife. I was surprised it was my 24 year old daughter.

That kit is sweet. That's an excellent way to get a non-knife person into knives and personal preparedness.

Yes!!! My girlfriend has laid claim to my new Barkie Essential. And she's not giving it back lol...

My wife typically has two knives with her when she's out. A Vic Classic on her keys and a Tinker in her purse. She is frequently the only woman in her crowd of friends with a knife when something needs cutting. Amazing. When asked, she replies, "You can't be married to Bill and not have a knife."

Nice! I may do the same thing for my Wife. It is a great idea.

Wife has begun a small knife collection. She has a black Ritter mini-grip and a full size Ritter grip, a sand/black sheepsfoot grip (matches one that I have), a combo black/black Kershaw Blur, a SAK and a couple of Leatherman Micras. She saw my Case Scout Jr. and wants one of those in blue bone, now. I'm so proud! :D
