I got up this morning and the big box under the tree was a Trend Airshield Pro respirator!

I have been wanting one of these since Tim Zowada demonstrated them at Ashokan!

No more cutting up faceshields to fit around half-mask cartridge respirators, no more trying to shave my beard so that I can get all of it inside a respirator, and no more grinding debris working around my safety glasses. Now I'll be able to work comfortably while grinding.

This thing is not cheap but really worth it! My wife wants me to keep breathing for a long time apparently.

Hope everyone is having a great day, time for me to make my wife breakfast.

Merry christmas

Now that looks like some serious equiptment!
Does the flow of air also prefent fogging up?

That gadget looks like just the thing. You must have been extra good to rate one of those :D

Page, She must love you more than mine loves me.
My wife put coal in my stocking....Oh, Wait, I like getting coal for Christmas.

You will love your Air Shield. I have an older type Trend with a fuller helmet. It was a bit ungainly, but worked superb. I switched to an Air Cap II, which is super easy to wear, but not as great in filtration as the Trend.
Since particulate matter is the prime concern in the grinding shop, these units will do 99% of the time. For those special tasks with vapors and gaseous toxins, use a cartridge respirator.

The rechargeable internal batteries on the Trend work OK, but I made a battery pack that hangs on the back of my belt and connects to the Trend with a coiled power cord. This modification lightened the hood, and made it work for much longer work sessions.

BTW, at the end of a days work , vacuum the pre-filter ( just run the hose across it from the outside) while you are vacuuming up the grinder area. This greatly extends the life and efficiency.

The real benefit of a shield type respirator is it is easy to put on when you enter the shop, and keep on until you leave.

The positive pressure air flow keeps your face cool and the shield does not fog.

Hengelo, yes it does indeed prevent fogging, it has tear-off shield protectors on the outside so that it protects the lexan shield from getting scratched up by abrasive stuff on the outside. This thing is extremely light and well balanced, the weight of the lithium ion battery pack is very little, it actually is almost as light as my hardhat with ear protectors I have to wear on the production floor at my day job. It is a very well thought out design, and surprisingly comfortable. The full shield will completely keep stray grinder debris out of my eyes too (which even the best safety glasses were not completely able to do, much to my wife's disappointment when I had to wake her up to drive me to the emergency room when a piece got AROUND my safety glasses and stuck to my eye

Wow that looks great Page. I don't think my sweetie would swing the $500 though. Maybe I should talk to her about what the costs of oxygen tanks and pushing me around in a wheel will be if we don't get one. :D Then there's the price of another battery and those fancy filters too. Heck knowing my luck, she'll hand me one of the kids face masks and a snorkel along with a few gauze pads and some duct tape.

I was just in the shop using the new respirator for 4 plus hours, the motor hiss/noise takes a few minutes to get used to , the balance is excellent, and it is wonderful not having bits of abrasive from the belt occasionally bouncing off my face. Nice being able to grind and breathe naturally and comfortably

Great, thanks. Ya, a year old and I'm still breathing crap and scrubbing stuff off my face and out of my eyes. But hey, the gift giving season is nearly upon us again and I thought I should find out before I ask Santa for some help toward getting one of these rigs. (As they say, hope springs eternal!)

Glasses are no problem, the airflow will actually keep your glasses from fogging. I put bulky safety glasses on under mine last night to be extra cautious while removing a stuck bullet over a live charge (it jammed well before seating on the powder) in my new black powder rifle, there is plenty of room. I make prefilters for mine (the filters are expensive) out of 3M filtrete air duct filter sheets (I can do a quick tutorial) that really extend the life of the filters

Too hard to communicate with it on.. at 400 bucks does it got an external speaker, and rechargable batteries? Im liking the design of the duxterity respirator and its price!

I really love this idea.. I recently had a chat with mr Ed Caffrey and he mentioned that he had some very serious health issues, due to iron/g10/various other particulates in this business. He has since taken filters much more seriously. This has freaked me out, but in a good way.. and $500 really doesn't seem unreasonable, considering the protection it gives. Of course I'll look at many options before deciding, but thanks for showing this. I too would love to see the 3M filter extension tutorial Page :P
