We're getting married tomorrow and she loves Spyderco knives and said she wanted to get me one if I pick it out. I started looking at the Mule series. Specifically the one in M390. I'm basically just looking for some general opinions and maybe some cool pictures if anyone has any. Sidenote; I'm also going to Afghanistan next month. Would this knife be a good utility tool for me/last ditch back up? Anyway, thoughts would be appreciated. Stay sharp, everyone.

You'd need to wrap the handle in paracord and/or if time permits, get scales and a sheath for it. How about a paramilitary 2 or military? Can never go wrong with either one.

Big fan of the Para 2 folder...

Congrats on your nuptials and stay safe on your deployment, fella!

Thanks for the replies. I know it comes pretty barebones and I don't mind putting in the extra effort for handle scales/wrap and sheath but I've got all the folders I need. I just feel like a good fixed blade would serve me better. And I have a friend that can work kydex pretty well. I just really like the Mule.

Take a wander over to the Spyderco Forum... the Mules have some great reviews with pics!

I think you will be pleased with the M390 Mule. It takes a superb edge. Might not be the best blade for hard use, but it'll cut very well. The Cobalt Special is very nice, too.
