We're getting married tomorrow and she loves Spyderco knives and said she wanted to get me one if I pick it out. I started looking at the Mule series. Specifically the one in M390. I'm ok with the fact it comes pretty bare bones. I don't mind forking up some extra cash for some scales or I could paracord wrap it myself. I have a friend who can work Kydex pretty well too but any other sheath suggestions would be cool. I'm basically just looking for some general opinions and maybe some cool pictures if anyone has any. Sidenote; I'm also going to Afghanistan next month. Would this knife be a good utility tool for me/last ditch back up? Anyway, thoughts would be appreciated. Stay sharp, everyone.

First off, Congrats on the marrage. I'm going to skip all logical thinking and say get the Warrior (for your kit) just for the cool factor , an Assist and a good multi-tool. Thanks for your service from a fellow Richmonder (Far West End). Stay safe Brother

Dan

Hey Dan, Thanks for the well wishes. The Warrior is sweet but I'm primarily looking for a utility knife. And I really just like the look of the Mule series. I just feel like I'd probably get more use out of the Mule. Plus my fiancee is buying for me and I don't want her to drop too much coin and the Warrior is a bit pricey.

What about something with stainless handles so you can have something engraved to commemorate the big event? Maybe a Police model.

That's a good thought lava_lamp but I've got tons of folders. I really want a fixed to take with me over seas.

xjzhx, I hear ya. How about this, you pick up the Mule and do a cord wrap now. Bring some basics over with you...epoxy, brass round stock, sandpaper etc and find a piece of wood over there and make scales during some down time. Sort of bringing back the days of "theater knives". Just an idea. If you need anything shoot me a PM and we'll see if I can help ya out.

Dan, that is an awesome idea and I think that's exactly what I'll do. And I really appreciate the support, man. Thanks again!

and a very good one.

If your thinking fixed blade and spyderco, I think the street beat is the best choice - Designed by Fred Perrin, super sharp flat ground vg10 - and aparently this thing has been seen going thru a brick wall and stayed intact, plus i think its their best fixed blade design

but i think that idea about making your own scales from a piece of wood you find over there would be a REALLY cool idea/creation if you actually do it, only question is what kind of wood you'll find in the sandbox...Stay safe out there and I hope you can come home and post some pics of the knife in action over there!

I love the street beat but again I don't want my wife spending a lot on me. I think I'll get that one for myself further on up the road. I appreciate the suggestion though.
