My Winter Gear List for 2010
I am prepping for some winter woods training in Ontario, Canada. Since Ive got all my gear laid out, I thought Id take some pics for you guys. There are a few things missing like pocket items and last minute grab-n-go stuff but here is the core of my equipment, anyway. I am in no way suggesting what you should bring just telling you what I use.
Pack (US Alice Medium I know some folks hate em, but they are one of the most versatile packs out there, IMO) This is my base camp kit. Once established, this pack(and food pouch, below) stays at camp. Its the shoulder bag from then on out. I also pack my anorak and mitts into this pack but pull them out when I leave camp.
Front Row: 6 garbage bags, antibacterial wipes, first aid/hygiene kit (large pressure dressing, band-Aids, gauze pads, antibiotic ointment, steri-strips, Tylenol, toothbrush, deodorant stone, latex gloves, hand sanitizer.), wool socks.
Second Row: Coleman stove, Zebra headlamp, cordage, extra base layer.
Third Row: Nalgene with coffee can billy, Tinder bag (jute, cotton, fatwood, char, steel wool, candles, magbar, lighter.), Pink poodle named violet, Thermos.
Forth Row: Spetsnaz Shovel, Trailblazer folding bucksaw
Back Row: Alice Pack medium, Tarp.
Notice the paracord wrapped supports and the inner tube sections on the straps. ...
Food Pouch (attaches to the side of the Alice Pack) This holds food for 3days or so. I can be stretch out WAY longer if need be . But I like living high on the hog.
Front Row: Sardines, jerky, trailbread
Second row: SPAM, olive oil, salt.
Back row: MOLLE medical pouch
Shoulder Bag (Jumbo Versipack) I have this on me whenever I leave base camp even when I drop a deuce, this bag in by my side.
Left row, bottom up: Garmin Etrex GPS, notepad/pencil, Sunto Compass/ Fox 40 whistle, SAR signalling mirror tag, coffee, tea, hot choc., oatmeal, sardines, spoon, 18 out tubing, 4 garbage bags, AMK heatsheet (2person), bandana.
Middle row: Trap kit (wire, 50#spiderwire, decoy line, paracord, artificial sinew, Alice clip, fishing kit), Duct tape, jute, paracord, marking tape, poncho, Gerber folding saw, safety glasses, minibic.
Right row: Leather Utilipouch (teatree soap, steristrips, Band-Aids, sewing kit, honing stone, zinc oxide, beeswax, tobacco, candle, flint, jute, paracord, leather lace, waxed jute, bic.), SS Nalgene, GSI canteen cup, cable rig to hang Nalgene over fire.
Belt Pouch (aka Ugly) this pouch stays on belt and only comes off when I sleep, maybe. Usually accompanied by my knife and hawk.
Counter-clockwise from top left: Leatherman Wave, paracord, wire, HBC tobacco tin (char, jute, flint, striker knife, tinder fungus, small ferro, leather pad, burning lens in lid, char cooker.), dental floss, candle, stone bearing, tinfoil, tinder bag (fungus, steelwool, cedar, jute), Ferro rod, photon light, 2 3ft lengths of paracord tied to belt.
Thats it for now.
Thanks,
(I see a few items missing but what the hell Im tired of typing)
Later.
Rick
