Sometimes my job isn't so bad. Today I got to chauffeur around a young scientist from the Canadian Wildlife Service to perform a hatchling count on an Island in the Detroit River called Turkey Island (which has no turkeys on it btw).

All of the nests were marked earlier in the year and the survey examines how many eggs were laid, hatched and eventually how many chicks fledge out as a measure of the colony health. They also sampled eggs for contaminants which are being run through my lab. Anyhow, noisy, the stinging nettle got me a couple of times, but it still beats pushing paper work all day.

Hope you enjoy a day in the life of a scientist! (Unfortunately, they aren't all like this!)....
