This is off topic for knife related stuff, but I know alot of you like guns. These were my work tools for a few decades. They are retired for the most part and now live an easy life protecting just my home and I. I just sweat on the handguns, now, in the Florida heat.

High Standard pump riot gun (no longer manufactured). 12 gauge 2-3/4", 6 round magazine, rifle sights, wide open choke, nylon sling, Choat top folding stock which is also a handle. Loads are number 4 buckshot(not 0000). Same in the bandolier with some slugs, too.

My main handgun is the Sig Sauer P226 in 9MM worn in a Jackass shoulder holster. At least two spare 15 round magazines plus others near by.

My ankle gun is the Walther PPK in .380 Auto. Always one spare magazine for it. The ankle holster is too old to remember what make it is.

As a point of interest, many years ago I saw the same riot gun (but with wood butt stock) mounted on motorcycles used for patrol in California. It was mounted muzzel down in an electric release mount similar to what patrol cars used. That was an interesting setup. Wish I had a picture of it.

Steve,

As I mentioned in the firearm question thread, my brother selected a SIG-Sauer P226, 9mm, as his first sidearm. He is very pleased with it. His only regret is that shortly after his purchase, he found a Navy Seal version (which he had been looking for) at a different dealer, for less than what he paid for his. Oh, well, such is life. I have not had a chance to fire his (he is in Colorado) but that is on the to-do list for my next trip there.
(Thanks again for your comments on the other thread.)

Eric

P.S. If I am ever in the neighborhood, I will most definitely call ahead before stopping by for a visit. :)

Hi Eric:

I didn't know there was a seal version.

I actually have two identical P226's. So whichever one I pick up is the same. No trying to remember what pistol it is and if I have to fumble for a safety. The P226 has no external safety. Point and shoot.

The Sig P226 is, argueably, the finest service pistol in the world.

You will enjoy shooting your brothers Sig.

Those are good choices.

High Standard (Hamden, Connecticut) made some truly great firearms, especially the .22 target pistols.

You can still get HS parts & mags: another company is making them.

Sig's are fantastic guns. Wish I could carry one on duty but unfortunately I'm stuck with a Beretta M9 (military contract version of the 92). I'm in the process of obtaining a Sig P228 in 9mm.

The Beretta is a fine weapon, too.

Some of the smaller Sigs are very attractive. I just can't bring myself to replace what is familier to me. The full frame P226 is a bit difficult to conceal down here in the summer. The PPK in the ankle holster is a better option, although it's hard to get to. Yet, it's better than nothing. A small in-the-pants holster for the PPK works even under a t-shirt, but the sweat on the pistol requires a lot of attention.
