My world just got mixed up...

I have been a die hard Spyderco fan since I have been into knives, and I rarely ever go anywhere without my favorite knife, the Para Military. But I think my world just got turned upside down.
I received a Benchmade Stryker 910 for Valentines today. Wow. The fit and finish is incredible, the blade is dead centered and super smooth with a solid lock up, and it is a sexy looking knife with an awsome tanto blade. The Stryker has a much more slender profile than my Para and fits in my pocket better. The fit and finish is also better than that of any of my Spyders.
I never thought that any knife would be able to knock the mighty Para from its main EDC position, but this Stryker might just do that. I see there is yet another Spyderco Vs. Benchmade thread recently, I don't know what to say, I have loved my Spydie Para for so long but this BM Stryker is love at first sight.
BTW, my very NON-knife knut girlfriend who usually wants nothing to do with my knives somehow picked this one out without any help from me. I actually don't ever bother discussing knives with her because I know it bores her so much. This girl is a keeper for sure:o

the 9100 version of these was recently assigned an NSN, so I see them popping up in alot of Army pockets. They've been quite popular for those that can get them. They have almost completly replaced the venerable 9053 (9050), probobly because of their slimmer profile.

My new GF discovered some of my knives stashed around the room and said "You should put those on display". How cool is that?

BTW, congrats on discovering other makers, I was glad to be stuck on Spydercos for many years as well. Not a bad thing, but I'm SO glad I got curious about the Strider thing.

I got hooked on BM knives about two months ago and bought a Stryker last month. So far I have not been disappointed with anything from BM including a Red Class ( import) Snipe I recently bought.

I bought my first Spyderco (a Native) a month before I got my first BM and I wasn't all that impressed with the Spyderco design. But this is a personal opinion and to be fair the Native was half the price of most of my BM's.

Someday I might try a higher end Syderco, but for now BM has been getting most of my business followed by Kershaw and SOG.

and yes your GF is a keeper

Congrats on the Valentines Day present! A 910 Stryker HSSR was my first Benchmade, and is still in my EDC rotation. Sharpening took a little practice at first, but I keep it freaky sharp now!

Did you get M2 or 154CM?

It's the 154CM plain edge version. I wonder if I will be able to keep the tips sharp on this thing. I do have several DMT benchstones and a Sharpmaker so I will practice. I hear alot of people bash liner locks, but I have never had a liner lock fail on me. The lock clicks closed soo solid that I have complete faith in it.
Now I want to try some other brands out! I have several Spydies, two SAKs, a Kershaw and now this Benchmade. Any other brands I should try out? This has me wanting to expand!

I maintain my 910 edges with the Sharpmaker. The trick to sharpening the tanto tip is to tilt the blade so that the tip maintains a horizontal profile along the stone. It takes a little practice, but once you get it it's easy.

FWIW, I keep a courser edge on the tip (no finer than the flats of the Fine stones) and polish the belly with the UF stones. I personally find this to provide a better edge for a penatrating stab/thrust, while maintaining a great slicing belly.

If you like the Benchmade liner lock (I've got 2 BM liner locks, which lock up very tight) you should consider checking out a Benchmade AXIS lock. The 2 models I'd recommend would be the BM 710 McHenry & Williams or the BM 556 Griptilian (Cabelas sells a model in D2 for ~$80). The Axis lock is probably the smoothest locking mechanism available; no Benchmade owner should be without at least 1 Axis! :)

I favor the BM 710 in M2 if you can still find one (soon they will be available in D2) over the Griptilian because of G10 vs. Zytel frame, but for the money the Grip is a great value of a knife.

Before you try out other brands get an Axis lock Benchmade. I bet you'll never go back.
