I was chatting with Chai Guy one night in mirc, and we were thinking of ways to expand the knife market. One of the ideas that we discussed was to give a knife to a female friend, so that the usefulness could be fully appreciated and passed on to others of the opposite gender. (You know the old adage... "She'll tell two friends, then they'll tell two friends, and so on and so on...")
Let's face it: word of mouth is the best advertising out there. And if we can get one relatively non-knife-using person out there hooked on our favorite tool, then the general populace is not only expanded by knife purchasers, it is also expanded by another supporter of knife carrying in general.
Our conversation was basically geared toward the female population, but it need not be restricted to such. So here is my proposal to you...
Pick one person this year, whether on your Christmas list or not, who does not carry a knife on a regular basis. Give that person a knife this year. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just a quality piece that will fit that person's daily lifestyle. Heck, just hop over to 1SKS and look around, you are bound to spot something.
Hopefully your gift will inspire someone to use a knife responsibly and get others to do so as well.

Sometimes I catch myself assuming that everybody knows their way around a pocket knife. Then I remember what the first three letters of "assume" are.
