Sooo...I've got these two maintenance guys that work at my condo complex. They both like knives and I have given them both some cheapies and I always hook em up with fish so they think I'm cool, whether I am or not. Anyway, they know me pretty well so today they were asking me what knives I brought back from the states. I smiled and pulled out my yojimbo 2.

After the oohs and aahs, one of them (Kevin) asked if he could check it out. I handed the knife to him and he opened it. After checking the edge, he started fumbling with it trying to figure out the compression lock. I started to show him and he rolled his eyes at me and said he didn't need help (did I mention that Kevin already knows everything?). So I watched him holding the knife and searching for the lock with his little finger right in the path of the blade. He found it. BOINK! He immediately looked up and grinned sheepishly and said "I cut myself". I laughed and said "I know". He bled for awhile and the three of us got a good laugh as the jokes flew for several minutes.

I think some twisted little part of me kind of gets a kick out of it when somebody cuts themselves with one of my knives. Especially after I tell them to be careful and they roll their eyes at me. :D. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a sadist and I don't want anyone to actually get hurt, but watching someone get a little nick and a lesson kinda makes me chuckle.

Well, the good thing is, the Great Yojimbo has has likely been temporarily appeased by this blood offering. The bad news is, it's only a matter of time before he needs another...

I used to show my knives to all my friends family etc. But after a few people fondled them, dropped them, and broke off the tips (because knives love to always drop tip first like a cat.always lands on its feet) I only let a certain few handle them. And even then I have them sit and play with it over a table.

Getting a tip back takes time that I don't have especially when it's someone else fault.

It seems like the fighting knives really need blood once in a while. My P'kal just got my blood a few weeks ago.

Is it me or does the Yojimbo seem to score blood more often than the average, I could swear there was another thread recently where a guy cut himself with one, but it may have been part of the April Fools malarkey...

I have a buddy who used to manage a Cutlery World in the mall. He was admiring my JD Smith and I told him to be careful...very sharp. He did the eye roll, looked at me like I was nuts then proceeded to draw blood. :p While I would never wish anyone to be hurt by one of my knives, we both laughed over this. Me more than him. Fortunately no stitches, and thankfully he didn't drop the knife.

My Kershaw mini random task got its blood lust sated two days ago opening a box of 123 batteries. Nice thing about having a razor sharp edge it heals up quickly. My hand not the knife LOL

Careful with IWB carry with this one :D
I've probably mentioned this before, but that hearty blade has partially deployed IWB on me, however in a pretty atypical situation (getting thrown to the ground during training). I now prefer to keep it against a pocket seam when carried...

Yup. I usually carry iwb, and this has crossed my mind more than once. I am carrying right side tip up now. I wonder what the safest configuration would be?

I remember someone else on the forum having a Yojimbo altercation recently. Maybe Spyderco need to change its name to the "Vampire", seems like they want to bite everytime they see daylight, lol.

I hope I get one by the end of the year :D

Surf, isn't that the knife you were asking me about if I had one?? Hahaha, every time I read about that knife, it's laying someone open. There was a cat about two weeks ago that laid his foot open when he dropped it tip down into his foot. Something about this particular knife seems to make it a blood letter. I want one now. :) Maybe I will follow the KW one they have coming out in S90V more closely.

Yeah, it's the one. You should grab one of these things. Everybody should. It's a great utility blade and has the best action of any spyderco I've ever owned. Opens and closes like a dream...I think it's a combination of the compression lock, blade weight and balance. Free falls open and closed yet somehow has a rock solid ZERO PLAY lockup! I have spent hours just playing with this one and it has replaced my military as my edc for the time being!

So it likes the taste of human blood. What can you do? Nothing's perfect. ;)

Do you have a manix xl yet? We have similar taste and I think you would like it. It's definitely wider than you are used to
Buy it's a dream in the hand. I've been using it today doing hard work and forgot how great it is.

Hey, no I don't have the manix xl, but I did have a chance to fondle the s90v version extensively back in January. I agree that it is a great knife with very good ergos, but ultimately I found it just a bit too big from a "carry" standpoint. I think it would make a good "back pocket" blade, but here in the tropics I rarely wear jeans and the xl is just too big for me to carry iwb. I do prefer the ergos of the xl to the regular manix though...by quite a bit.
