I recently asked about the Myerchin marine knives. Encouraged, I ordered a B300 'Offshore Folder'. Finding it on 'sale' for the Holidays, I added a P300 'Sailor Tool' for myself - and one for my son's birthday next month (He'll be 40!!). They included an A901 'Klondike Church Key' as a freebie. Nice prices - contact them for a flyer. I ordered them at lunchtime Monday - they arrived by USPS Priority Mail - their usual shipper - Thursday - the 23rd of December - amidst the Christmas rush - that was fast (CA to AL!). Great service.

B300: I wanted the 'ultimate' in basic marine knives - a locking large plain blade (available partially serrated) and a decent Marlinspike. It exceeded my goal - black Micarta (available in white, too) scales riveted in the frame - ground flush - and a sturdy lock for both the Marlinspike and blade. No side play deploying or locked - really sturdy. Sharp - raised a few hairs - cut copy paper easily - .120" thick blade - even secondary bevel. The handle is finger-grooved for the forefinger, making a comfortable grip for power cutting - the jimping on the blade allows more tighter-gripped control, although fine scrimshaw is likely not it's forte. The Marlinspike is slightly curved and rounded on it's 'bitter end', making injuries less easily completed. The boxed 'Made in Japan' knife of 440 steel is nicely made, serialized, and has a nice nylon sheath.

I have a few marine knives - Buck 315s and Victorinox Mariner series SAKs. This one is a 'real' user - made right - easily worth more than what I paid for my entire order. I'll likely feel that way when the MC bill gets here next month, too.

P300: This is a cute PRC-made tool. More slop, as you'd expect, in it's construction. It has a one-piece dual liner/liner lock/plier fixed jaw made of sheet SS with the opposite end of the quite curved and pointy Marlinspike the movable plier jaw - neat design. In use, I'd put it over the Vic SAK pliers - and even with some multi-tools' pliers in abilities - certainly okay for small shackles. Just be careful of the point on the Marlinspike/plier handle in use. Torxx screws hold the colored Al sides on - as do the bail clip's rivet. A removable pocket clip is mounted - and it comes in the smaller version of the nylon sheath included with the B300. Good small boat knife - useful, but not the knife the B300 is. Serrated blade is not real secure - the liner over travels on mine. The Marlinspike liner lock is okay - but the play is still there. It will likely not be here long - but it is a fairly decent 'idea'. If I still had a boat - and 'accidently' float tested it, I wouldn't cry.

A901: PRC-made. Good stocking stuffer. Tight but flimsy features. Worth the price (Free!) - but barely. A small Vic SAK is such a step up!

The B300 - and their service - are great.
