My father has been in boat sales for over 20 years, and I want to get him a nice nautical folder. I have been looking at Myerchin knives, are they any good? Are there any Made In The USA nautical brands? I know he wants a knife with that thing that pulls knots out.

I'm open to suggestion, any info would help.
Thanks,
Jon

I don't know much of anything about meyerchin knives but "that thing that pulls knots out" is called a marlinspike.

Get him a Schrade Mariners Knife! Classy looking wharnecliff with a marlinspike.

BUCK made an excellent yachtman knife.... the 315

Myerchin also offers a fixed blade with the marlin spike as a separate piece. If you buy the folder, go with stainless or titanium.

I keep a Victorinox Helmsman in my bag. The spike also has a slot to use as a shackle key.

I have not seen the Schrade but I have read that Camillus is making some that are the finest China has to offer.

G.Ibbersons are nice and much smaller knives.

Thanks for the info gents. I really like buck, but I'm also a fan of titanium. I don't know what he likes, and I don't want to ask because it is a present. I'm torn between getting him the Buck 315 and the titanium Myerchin. Do you guys think $80-$100 is overpriced for a 440c blade even if it has titanium?

good choice! i hope your dad would appreciate such a fine gift!
obviously too, i don't think u can find statesside the original
FOX SAILING KNIFE SEA MASTER 234
which incidently is of 440 stainless steel
understandably ag's is of premium material utilizing the same design
hence the premium cost.

If my opinion matters any I quite like the A.G. Russel one. Classy looks and judging by design also very functional especially if you get the serrated one. Having them in the front I think is much better than the back, but they give you the choice for that as well. I thought about getting it for plain edc for a few minutes but the only use I'd have for a marlin spike would be for the nylon cord on my headphones lol. That might be overkill but I still like the look of it best out of the ones mentioned here.
