Does anyone have a Myrtle yet? Tell us about it.

I like the looks of the knife, but I don't like the clip.

I've started 2 thread about the Myrtle. NoBody has 1. I guess this knife died before it got off of the starting block.:eek:

No doubt it's well made but I can't see a lot of these quirky and expensive new designs finding a large customer base.

I have one. Initially it was very stiff but has broken in nicely and now opens smoothly. Great fit and finish, wickedly sharp, very nice overall. Would I recommend? Maybe? I guess? It really is nice looking but it's kind of an answer to a question nobody asked.

I bought this one when it first came out and absolutely love it. Like jhawk said, it was a little stiff at first but is excellent. It's definitely an interesting knife, but you can use it for just about anything (except going straight in). The fit and finish is incredible. At first I did not like the clip, but then it grew on me. I bought this knife just to try it out and return it if I didn't like it, and I have carried it a bunch and am definitely never selling it. I can't even pinpoint why I like it. I believe the blade is as thick as my Spyderco Tuff. It's definitely an interesting one.

IMO this is a product that MAP is hurting:

• Steel is nothing special
• MAP is over $200

It is an interesting looking design but there is nothing that makes me want it. If it was M4, Crueware, M390 or CTS204P I would buy one. I just cant justify $216 on S30V when you have so many things in better steels on the horizon:

• 52100 Mili
• CTS204P Mili
• S90V Ti/ CF Mili
• S110V Mili
• M4 CF Para
• M4 Natural G10 Para

MAP means most of us have to watch what we buy and at how much.

I find it kind of funny that you complain about map when over here all new releases (and often the old ones as well) go for the full catalog retail price in euros.
Also steel isn't everything to some of us.

I have one. It's a very well made knife. I love the ergos. The thick spine disappears with the full flat grind to a great cutting edge.

Map has nothing to do with this. None of those knives have titanium slabs with frame lock and carbon fiber inlay. Introduce a more exotic steel, as you asked for, and the price would increase 40%.

I'm fine with S30V for this knife. I think Spyderco does S30V as well as anyone so I've generally liked it for their blades. The carbon fiber and blasted titanium are very well executed on this knife and overall I think it is a fair price for what you're getting.

There are a bunch of recent and upcoming Spydercos with a street price (MAP or 40% off MSRP) above $200. Most people do a double-take at the $200 mark for Spydercos. Even more so around the $250+ mark. Additionally, there are quite a few others that fall into this category due to MAP enforcement of January 1, 2016. For instance, Firefly and Mike Draper with VG-10 going for $209.97-$215.97.

Also, some of these pricey ones lack a premium steel although they have have upscale/costly handle materials/finishes. Still, I think the market for these are limited except perhaps for the ever popular ParaMilitary2 and different steels (numbers 9 & 12 in the list below).

Here are some examples with street pricing (MAP = 40% off MSRP):

  1. Nirvana (Taiwan): $431.97
  2. Native5 40th Anniversary Damascus CF Sprint (USA): $359.97
  3. Mamba CPM-S30V CF (Taiwan): $323.97
  4. Proficient CPM-S90V CF (Taiwan): $293.97
  5. Tighe Stick CPM-S90V Titanium (Taiwan): $287.97
  6. Military CPM-S90V TI CF with R.I.L. Lock KnifeWorks (USA): $279.95
  7. Manix2 CPM-154/CPM-S90V Composite Blade CF Sprint (USA): $239.97
  8. PITS N690Co Bead Blasted Blue Anodized Titanium (Italy): $239.97
  9. ParaMilitary2 CPM-M4 CF KnifeWorks (USA): $219.95
  10. Myrtle CPM-S30V Titanium/Marble CF (Taiwan): $215.97
  11. Vrango CPM-S30V Titanium/CF Inserts (Taiwan): $215.97
  12. Military 52100 CF Sprint (USA): $209.97

I almost pulled the trigger on one a while back. Would love to have one (but I'd change the clip).

I see a lot of discontinued models in Spyderco's future. :) I'll be happy to pony up for the TAC1S and the 'lil Nilakka whenever they become available. I'm also in for a sprint Para2.

I love the design of the Myrtle, but it's just a bit bigger than what I like to carry. The price is actually a little less than I would have expected, considering the materials used and a slightly more complicated construction.

I may end up eventually changing my mind though, because I'd really like to give that blade shape a try.

Does any one who has a Myrtle tried any other Spydie clip on it to see if it will fit? I can't stand the fugly clip that's

on the Myrtle. Different/better clip, I'd buy it.

It looks like the Native 5 FRN would line up.

Although the blade shape has that slight hook to it , I really like the looks of the Myrtle overall. It's been on my radar for a while. But now that the Nirvana is pushed back to a fall 2016 release , I'll be buying a Myrtle and Ti Military in the interim.

The Ti/CF handle on the Myrtle is nothing short of seductive IMO.

I just don't care for the Myrtle. Too expensive for what you get IMO. Just me.
