Please forgive me for posting a link to my blog, but I think it is relevant. Today's post is about finding and contemplating mysteries of nature, and how it can deepen enjoyment, appreciation, and understanding of nature to look for and contemplate such wonders. I show a couple examples, and then discuss them. I thought you might enjoy, so:

I'd love to see some of your photos of mysteries of nature, and hear your guesses about them.

Cheers.

Stunning pictures with amazing stories as always!
And this time, even more amazing mysteries!
First I want to thank you for sharing such a wonderful experience.

That mysterious ice are found in cold clear dry morning I think.
Around freezing point, warmer water goes down as the water has it's highest density at 4C.
Lower part remains liquid and dries up while upper part freezes.
Well, maybe :D

Haven't seen that top blown off trees. Thats total mystery for me.

Here's some pictures of lave cave around Mt. Fuji in Japan.
It's freezing cold even in mid summer.
When go down to it's entrance, the temperature goes down dramatically!
I have almost no idea why this cave is so cold.
These pictures were taken this July.

Here are a few pics of more mysterious ice, this ice forms at the base of just one plant, why this plant? It is real soft to the touch, like powdered ice.

The pictures where taken on christmas eve last year.

Very pretty. I have no idea why the ice forms that way, but thank you for sharing! Interesting pics!

Thank you, Fujita Yuji.

Thanks for sharing, folks..

It's interesting how many of these nature mysteries involve ice.

Surely, more of you have some to share.

I've seen the ice form on those plants around here. I always wondered what caused it as well. Very neat, but strange.

I had another thread about this , but it fits here. Found this a week ago. Ive seen calcium buildups in Yellowstone but never around here.An above ground stalagmite formed by a springfed waterfall. Stalagmites form in caves over time when mineral enriched water drips on it. This is hardly a drip. Youd think the water would be eroding it but its not. It seems to be growing.

Could be a hurricane that rips the tops off the trees. Seen a similar thing here on Vancouver island. The forest was hit by fire, killing the treen then a huge wind storm took off the tops just leaving stumps.

oh, also around here, a lot of douglas fir have huge side branches because the tops were snapped off. My horticulture tacher says the tme it happened corresponds with a massive earthquake that happened here, which snapped them off. Not sure if I believe it but still interesting:)
