I was reading some of the old threads in this forum and it made me remember my first Buck knife. My brother in law (12 years older) gave me a used buck knife in 1971 when I was a sophomore in HS. It was in pretty good shape except for it had a black custom leather sheath instead of the original. I used it for backpacking and fishing over the next 4 years. It helped start many fires, build many shelters, cleaned buckoo numbers of trout and accompanied me all over the Olympic Mountains in Washington State. I'm not a hunter but I even remember throwing it at a grouse once. Needless to say the grouse was still alive that evening. I either lost it, sold it, or gave it away in 1975. Funny thing is I can't remember what model it was. I know it was smaller than a 119 so I'm guessing a 105 but it could have been a 118 or even a 121. I still have a thing for the older ones....with 440 steel........and a leather sheath.

Nice story, are you sure you didn't loose it throwing it at a goose.
I couldnt tell you what model knife you had with the description you gave.

Good point JB. Might have thrown it at a trout in the Elwha River. Some of them are really big. I do remember I liked the size of it because it wasn't too big. When I'm backpacking now I just carry one of my 110's. Best knife ever created. Some people say they're too heavy but when its on your belt you don't even notice. I like the early sheaths that were slimmer and used that lighter "glove" leather. If I really cared about going light I'd use my blaze orange 426 which is a great knife.................but the 110!!! Just can't be beat.
